If anyone has an ereader, I have the book as an epub (which works on nook and ibooks, and can be converted for kindles).

I had a hard time keeping the characters straight at first too but as the book goes along, you get to know them. I have almost 100 pages left and have no idea how the book is going to end.

Basically I found the book to be just a commentary on class inequalities, but it suffered because the characters were hard to like and really relate to.
Has anyone read Mansfield Park by Jane Austen? It reminded me of that. Okay story, but you don't actually like any of the characters....
A BIG NOVEL ABOUT A SMALL TOWN ...
When Barry Fairbrother dies in his early forties, the town of Pagford is left in shock.
Pagford is, seemingly, an English idyll, with a cobbled market square and an ancient abbey, but what lies behind the pretty façade is a town at war.
Rich at war with poor, teenagers at war with their parents, wives at war with their husbands, teachers at war with their pupils ... Pagford is not what it first seems.
And the empty seat left by Barry on the parish council soon becomes the catalyst for the biggest war the town has yet seen. Who will triumph in an election fraught with passion, duplicity and unexpected revelations?
