Used a paragraph from my second book.

It doesn't. I did a paragraph from book one before and got the same result.

I think they base the result on the words used.

What's good is when you type something in and have your own name come up. :)

I got: Chuck Palahnuik and then Dan brown, haven't read anything from either though so I wouldn't know...

I posted loads different things and got J.K Rowling now.

Interesting link, Jenny! I ran in a few sections from Time's Twisted Arrow and got Stephen King, Dan Brown and Cory Doctorow. The sequel to TTA gives me Margaret Atwood, JK Rowling and Stephen King. Switched to another book I'm working on that has a somewhat different style and subject, and I got William Gibson, Chuck Palahniuk, and again, Stephen King.

So Uncle Stevie is my only common denominator -- which probably shouldn't be a surprise given that I've read pretty much everything he's written. :)

I got Chuck Palahniuk. I don't know who that is? LOL very strange.

I got Ursula K. Le Guin. No idea who she is, or what her books are like.

Is this reliable? Because I tried it like 5 times with different samples, and I got the same each time.

I don't think it's very reliable... but it's fun, try to get a certain Author with random pieces of your writing!

He wrote Fight Club -- definitely not a YA author. But my guess is that you posted sections that had a good bit of dialogue and were action-oriented.

I write like James Joyce...but let me put in a paragraph from another book and see what happens.

Really!!!!??? I just posted a few paragraphs of my Speak Now Short Story. That definately didn't have any action in it.

The two that I get the most for my essays: David Foster Wallace and H.P. Lovecraft.

If you go on his website, and email him he will email you back the book PDF. He doesn't believe in copyright.

I got J. K. Rowling. I'm good with that, especially if I can duplicate her success.
