Brent had contacted Anna and asked her to meet him at the “Big Manhole.” It appeared he had knowledge of some goings on. When she shows up just a minute or so after he had been shot, that creates all kinds of possibilities in thinking. Do you recall what your thoughts or ideas might have been?

We the reader didn't know yet about the illegal goings on at this point. Frieda had explored the caves (not seen) by the others, and found the most gorgeous caves and beautiful portions of the caves, and then the company with their pipes and excavation where they probably didn't know what they totally were doing. I was pretty sure Brent knew, that was why he was killed before Anna came so Brent couldn't tell her and show her what activities were going on.

Julie | 168 comments Agreed- though it was very surprising to me that he had died. I guess I don't read many murder mysteries so I'm not always waiting for the next victim. I was actually shocked at how early Frieda died in the book and wondered what the next 200 pages would be about. But that's really when the story picked up for me.
