So I love John Donne's poetry, and his poem "Song" in the beginning of the book is so fitting for this story. I really love the line "Tell me, where all past years are...Teach me to hear mermaids singing, or to keep off envy's stinging." Not only is Tristran going through this whole process of growing up as the story progresses, but he's also trying to figure things out: His identity, love, this whole other world he doesn't understand and his place within it. Learning how to "advance an honest mind" is essentially his journey/destiny - he delves into this fantastical place and he has to come to terms with its realism. I am probably off on a tangent right now, but I'm just in love with this poem. And this book! It's been a while since I have read Stardust and I'm so happy to be reading it again!
