I really liked this story. It was set in a very real location, with very real characters which made the situation with the vending machine and angel more believable.

The idea that the ability to rebel had been taken away from angels, so they concocted a way to trick humans into rebelling for them was fantastic. The ultimate loophole.

Plus, I loved that David, the one person perceptive enough to figure out what was going on, was morally strong enough to tell the angel that he would not be the person to put them over the top.

This story left me happy and satisfied.

Richard (rdansky) | 2 comments Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it. It took about four tries to get the ending right on this one so that it was clear what the angel was actually asking Our Hero to do. For a while, I wasn't quite sure I knew where he was going myself, but the angel seemed very certain, so I just sort of followed where he was going.

Brian (brianconner) | 9 comments Wow. Another excellent story. This one wasn't as emotionally evocative as some of the others, but it certainly raised an interesting question...what would you in that position? I like to think I could be like David and be strong and not make a choice which wasn't his to make. I like to think that, anyway.

"The idea that the ability to rebel had been taken away from angels, so they concocted a way to trick humans into rebelling for them was fantastic. The ultimate loophole." <-- an excellent point and a really good premise for a story.

What would be in my vending machine? Not sure. It would probably depend on the day. Some days, nice prime rib and other days loads of chocolate covered in chocolate. And don't forget the days when it would just be filled with beer.

Janet Harriett (janetharriett) | 8 comments This was definitely a story to make me think more than make me feel. It explores a very serious question in a deceptively lighthearted way.

Overall, Maurice and Jerry did a great job balancing out the stories that poke at the primal lizard brain and ones that tickle the higher-order critical thinking parts of the brain.
