I just spent a few minutes reading book reviews of The Name of the Wind on Amazon. I was really surprised that so many people claimed that this book was exactly (some people ever typed EXACTLY) like Harry Potter. Really? How is it exactly like Harry Potter? There are similarities, yes. But exactly?

Their might be similarities but I never made that connection when I read it. I am, honestly not seeing it much other than a group of friends go to the same school. Maybe I have gone stupid but I feel like these people claiming this just don't like to try new things.

The scene where Kvothe receives Saicere from the Adem did remind me a little of the scene were Harry Potter picks his wand. But no, I don't think the books are very similar either.

Yah, they have similarities, but, exact? I think those people need to reread both series. LOL.

Harry was more of a childrens series all the way through, the most adult novels of the series are the final two and they are still very young adult in the format.
I love JK Rowling as well, but I feel Pat had a more adult vocabulary and presentation of his Fantasy Series. It's pretty clear to me, that both are amazing writers, but writing to different target audiences.

I wonder if it's a feeling people get without really understanding it.

The orphan plus wizarding school thing and Ambrose's classist antagonism ring Potter bells for people. And the something feels similar but the can't put their fingers on it.

HP and the KKC share deep literary structural elements like literary alchemy and ring composition that might reinforce what these folks are thinking even if they don't have the background to describe it.

Hey guys just for clarification. This topic is for questions about the Off Topic folder, as in what qualifies as Off Topic. :)

HAs anyone posted short stories on the goodreads website. I was looking through them and was going to post a story or two but noticed there are a lot that nobody has ever even viewed. If im gonna share i would like it read and get feedback from it!

There is a web series that i just found out about but everyone here may already been there done that. Anyhow GRRM brought a Movie theater in Sante Fe & will devote a whole weekend to this web series. You can find it at www.watchtheguild.com

Started to watch it Stephen but confused on what its about? How is GRRM involved? producer, directer, does it have anything to do with ASOFAI. Should i start from season 1 or is it just six? Whats the "Guild"

How Long is this series? I know DOS is the third book in the Trilogy, but i heard there is another trilogy following Kvothe's storyline. Dont know the truth of this from same article (not sure where i read it) that Kovthe's story altogether is supposed to be 9 books in all. 3 trilogy's following his Life. dont know why not make it just a 9 book series thats why i didnt really believe it. Since this is OFF TOPIC thread i figured throw it out their see if anyone else has heard anything similar. I could see where Part coud really expand his story with the Fae, Bast....

It is just a funny show about gamers, each episode lasts 6 or so minutes with an ad that starts each show, do not confuse the ads with the episode. It now has 6 seasons, but it takes about an hour to watch a whole season. The series gets stronger so do not give up. Start at season one, 10 episodes.

Unfortunately DOS is the last book following Kvothe and his life. Patrick has confirmed this, but who knows, he might pop up in other inhabitants of the 4C's stories! he has said that he will continue to write stories in the 4C.

Sorry, it stands for the 4 corners. It's the term used to describe Kvothe's world.

Gotcha! well maybe the areticle i read was a 9 book series referring to the 4C. Same world maybe we follow Bast?

I haven't read or heard anything about KKC being a 9 book series and I tend to follow pretty closely.
I have heard tons of wishful thinking on this subject though, I'll bet that is what you read.

I know for sure that he is writing a Bast POV story though, it's supposedly novella sized. Really looking forward to that. No publication date yet that I've seen though, and if you haven't read it, he has published another 4C's story in Unfettered, its really short and kinda weird, but the more times I read it the more I like it. Recommend reading it aloud, gets the meter better and makes it funner. (haha that's not a real word)

Yeah as far as I know K's narrative is the first trilogy and Pat plans to do more with the 4c but not from K's perspective. Bast will be one and more than likely some others in 4c but as far as we know K's story ends with DoS.
