I, personally, like yearly challenges. Especially, where you need to find (ex.) a book with a child as the main character or with a flower on the cover. Or something like that.
Thanks Melissa. As you can probably see, I'm terrible at coming up with challenge ideas and setting them up. When I get a new moderator I'm hopefully going to pass on that job to them.

There are so many groups with so many challenges that it's hard not to borrow others ideas, but most groups are okay with sharing :)
I know I'd like a challenge that gets you to use only books you own. I have over 200 in my bedroom and it doesn't seem to get any smaller because I get BOTM's from the library or so and so said read this and I don't own it. Or I win GR's giveaways, so I have to read those in a timely manner and review so I will keep willing ... it never ends!! LOL I promised myself I wouldn't buy anymore until I got what I already have out of control.
In one group we have a Name challenge going on. You pick books that start with the letters of your first or last name. Excluding the, a and and.. Another group has a 12+2 challenge. You pick 12 books and 2 alternates, in case a book really bites...
There is also the A-Z challenges that everyone loves.
The decade challenges; picking one book per decade.
I really like the board game sort of challenges. A board is made by a mod and a big picture is posted along with the rules. The participants have to roll a dice (real or virtual) and have to read a book that fits with whatever category they land on. Here's the sort of thing I mean: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1...There are lots of fun ones like this all around goodreads and the good thing is it's not copying as you can make the board and commands completely unique to the group.

I saw a monopoly one a while ago but it was in an over-18 group so I couldn't join in. It looked really cool though! Hope you have lots of fun with it :)
Hey, wasn't there an every year challenge in this group? Where you read a book from every year? Or am I thinking of a different group?
Jack wrote: "Yeah, sorry about that. My bad. I deleted it accidentally. Would you like me to remake it?"I would Jack if it isn't too much trouble. I have read 8 of them and well was quite enjoying myself..Thanks
Someone seemed to like my TBR Cleanup Challenge.1. Sort your TBR list alphabetically and choose the 24th book that appears.
2. Sort your TBR list by date added and read the first book you added.
3. Sort your TBR list by average rating and read a book that falls in the top 15 highest rated books.
4. Choose your favorite number and read the book that corresponds with that number on your list.
5. Sort your TBR list to show all the books that start with the first letter of your middle name and choose one.
6. Sort your TBR list by date added and read a book you added in your birthday month.
When you finish, START OVER!!
That's a really interesting challenge, Kat. Perhaps when my TBR list is a little longer, I'll give it a go :P
TBR Lists are a problem. They start off small, but then for every book you add to your "read" list, you add another 5 to your "to-read" list, and the next thing you know, you're pretty much set for reading material for the next three and a half lifetimes...

And I try very hard not to read my 'free kindle book of the day" emails!! ;)

I love that idea Kat!
As you have probably noticed, I'm not very good at moderating challenges within the group. I am looking for someone who would like to become a moderator and take over the challenges. I need someone who can be creative with challenge ideas and can keep discussion up with challenge threads. Anyone want the job?
Thanks,
Jack ;)

Jack I thought several people were interested in being a mod with you and sent in apps?
Jack wrote: "Yes, but I also want a mod that is willing to take over the challenges."oh I see.... okay.. I guess for some strange reason I thought you had picked one... I know I get crazy sometimes. Hopefully you will find someone willing to do that..
Denisa wrote: "Jack I thought several people were interested in being a mod with you and sent in apps? "I've sent in an app. There's so much I never knew about the site. Guess I should study, just in case.
I liked someone's idea of different mods in charge of different sections.
Hey, I participate in quite a few challenges in different groups, and I think something that would be really fun to have is a seasonal challenge where people compete for points for reading certain books (eg Read a book with a ring on the cover, Read a book set in a country that intersects the equator, organise your tbr by date added and read the book twelth on the list, ect) you get points based on the difficulty of the tasks... I'm a member of a much bigger group that does this and it is addictive. Problem is, it's so big that there is no community vibe. Anyone else participate in a challenge like this or would be interested in a challenge like that? I'd be happy to help plan one!
