The East Bay Mystery Readers' Group (EBMRG) officially began in January 1994, although there were two of us at the initial meeting in December 1993. Although our we have over 30 members, most are remote. However, there is a core group of us who actually meet at 7 p.m. on, generally, the first Tuesday of each month at Dark Carnival, 3086 Claremont Avenue, Berkeley, California.
We discuss the 3 books which had been chosen by the group. Some people will have read all three, some only one, and some haven't had a chance to read any of the books, but we still like people to come. Sometimes, our remote members will send in their comments prior to the meeting so they may be included.
Our agenda for the meetings is:
- We discuss each book -- nothing heavy. We don't get into "what was the meaning behind" but do more liked it, hated it, why, would you read more by that author. - We each talk about other books we've read during the month - We select the 3 books for 2-months out The books must be a paperback or available from the library, and try to have different types (cozy, medium-dark, dark) so everyone has at least one book that appeals to them. We try to keep to this but, with more books being released as trade paperbacks, we will, occasionally, select one in that format.
