This will be my first Nicolas Sparks book. I know behind but I'm looking forward to it.

I have this all queued up and ready to go as soon as I finish . I love Nicholas Soarks books.

I'm about an hour and a half into this. I'm at the point where (view spoiler)[ Dawson sees Amanda in the garage for the first time since they were in high school. (hide spoiler)]

I went to the library yesterday to pick up an audio I had on reserve and guess what - I found this book on audio!! So, I will be starting this one next week.

how are the rest of you doing with this read?

I ended up having issues downloading it from my library and now I'm locked out - urg. Hoping to make it up there today to get some assistance and hopefully figure out the issue.

I am enjoying this book. Its not a normal happy go lucky typical sparks romance - at least not yet. Its reality based. I like it.

I just started listening to it this morning. I hope it's good. I usually like his books.

I'm in chapter 10 and not your usual romance so far.
Amanda's mom reminds me of my mom.

I started Ch. 12 on my way in this morning.

I started this one today, right now I don't remember what chapter I'm on, but I am on disc 5. I am enjoying the story, I didn't know what to expect, but so far it is pretty good.

I am on the fence with the narrator, I'm not sure that I like him.

I am past chapter 12, but not sure exactly what chapter I'm on - I am listening to disc 7.

I finished the book yesterday morning. I was very touched by the ending. Linda - all I can say is you find out the answer to your question at the end of the book. I almost actually shed tears I was so touched by the way things ended. Very good book.

Wow, you guys are fast. I'm only on chapter 6. Granted, I have been sick the last few days & hadn't gotten any listening time in. I'm glad to hear you liked it Jennifer. I need that after The Secret Keeper.

You were right Jennifer, I finished this one yesterday. I could totally see this book playing out in a Lifetime movie!!! LOL!!!

And I agree with you on the ending - shocker!!! Did you figure it out before you go to the end? I did.

You both are making me want to hurry up & finish. I've still got a little over 4 hours to go. Dawson & Amanda are on their way to take care of Tuck's ashes. I'm enjoying the story. I wonder how it's going to end. I'm not sure how he's going to give it a "happy" ending (not that he always does).

I'm only on chapter 4... I need to hurry up!

Nikki I would say its happy ending but not a happily ever after ending...

I finished yesterday & while I enjoyed the book, I wasn't thrilled with the ending. Honestly, I'm not a huge fan of Nicholas Sparks book endings anyway. They are seldom truly happy. Something always happens at the end that causes tears.

(view spoiler)[I wondered if Tuck was the "vision" Dawson kept seeing as well. I honestly never thought of Dr. Bonner (sp?) until the very end when he stopped him in the curve. I agree Jennifer, Tuck was a romantic at heart. Planting all of those wildflowers, such a sweet gesture.

I could see the ending before we got to it. Once Dawson decided to head back to Oriental to get the letter, I knew he would probably be killed. I immediately thought about a heart transplant for Amanda's son...even before they said he needed one. That was where my mind immediately went. It threw me for a bit when they said the first surgery was successful & he would be fine. I was like...really? So what is going to happen with Dawson. Then, once he had the heart attack, I was like...that's what I thought. I saw it all coming together & I wasn't happy. I don't think I ever really thought Amanda & Dawson were going to have their Happy Ever After, but I didn't want Dawson to die. ::sigh:: (hide spoiler)]

I still gave the book 4 stars but like I said, I wasn't thrilled with the ending.

I just got home from watching the movie "Safe Haven". I hadn't read the book on it & decided to wait until after I watched the movie so I wouldn't be disappointed in it. I usually sit there & pick out the differences between book & movie if I read first. I enjoyed the movie but surprisingly, did not cry. I was surprised by the "ending". I knew something was up with Jo but didn't see that until the very end.

I got quite a bit of this one done today, but still not finished. Due back at the library Thursday so I have to finish soon!

I really enjoyed Safe Haven, so much so I kept the book, but I don't really remember the story. I definitely want to see the movie. I love Julianne Hough. :)

You are right Nikki, it was a sad ending. That stinks that you saw it coming, I didn't. I was very touched.

(view spoiler)[ I knew that there is no way he would give them a Happily Ever After ending so I was disappointed and wondering why we went through all that with them, but then it made sense when "the best of him" was put into her son so she will always have her Dawson, if not in his body, but in that of her son. I actually was very touched by the ending. I thought it was a great way to bring their story as close to a happily ever after as it could realistically get. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[I kept wondering if the man in the windbreaker that he kept seeing was himself...and even right before he figured out who it was, his thought process had me thinking, wait...are we about to be told that Dawson was killed during the explosion and all this was just a dream that Amanda was having? Haha...I was about to be really upset. I never expected it to be Dr. Bonner.

I had the ending figured out once it was decided her son needed a new heart. I enjoyed the book until the end. I even had hope after the wreck that Amanda *would* end up with Dawson after all, since she had so much anger towards Frank. I just really hate that Dawson died! Bless his heart, he just never could catch a break. And I hate how Mrs. Bonner was so hateful towards him. Even in the end at the cemetery when she said she knew it was an accident...if she knew that, then why be so cold to Dawson all the time? I've certainly never been in that situation, but I'd like to think that I wouldn't hold such a grudge. I definitely teared up 2 or 3 times during this one.

Anyways...I gave it 4 stars, too. I wanted to give it 5 but I just needed a Happily Ever After for that!

Have y'all ever seen the movie Return to Me? It's a really good movie, and if I hadn't seen it, I don't know if I would have been able to guess how this book was going to end. Very similar storyline as far as the heart transplant goes. (hide spoiler)]

I'm the same way, Nikki. Well, I just looked at The Hobbit discussion for this month...is anyone listening to or planning on listening to that one? Or has anything been chosen for March yet? Can't believe it's almost here already.

No one has posted anything on the Hobbit discussion thread. I know one person mentioned they were going to read it but haven't heard anything from them since. I didn't have The Hobbit on audio so I decided to pass on that one.

I like my happily ever after's too, but I think that wouldn't have been very realistic in this story and I think it would have cheapened the story. The ending had a Jodi Picoult feel to it. (IMHO)

I love the movie Return to Me Marcy. You are right, this is a very similar story. I didn't put two and two together.

I need to check my library on the audio version of this one.

I have not listened to The Hobbit.
