Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments We are a friendly lot here and there is something for everyone.

If you are struggling to get round our site try Group Quick Start

Please start by adding a post to our ‘Introduce Yourself ‘ thread. We are a nosey lot and would love to know who you are, what you like to read (and write), where you live and what you drink, eat, wear and grow.

This thread meanders off-topic quite a bit but as soon as a new member comes along our friendly but bonkers members soon appear to give you a warm welcome.

Of course you don’t have to introduce yourself if you prefer.

Getting started is often a bit of a problem. Try our Group Quick Start for tips.

You could head off to Meet The Authors, check out our Monthly Book Selection, check out the New releases or play some Group Games.

The Author Zone is going great guns. This is not just for authors by any means but gives them a place where they can talk about publishing challenges and resources. It is a no-promo zone!

Even if you don’t feel ready to post something you are most welcome to sit back and watch the fun.

This forum is very lightly moderated (hardly noticeable), occasionally we will ask you to keep a particular thread on topic and we have a few simple rules about author threads and new releases.

There are plenty of ebook related threads, author related discussions including a debate on the merits of KDP Select and a place to share your musical taste.

If you have any problems you can post questions on the threads or visit our Agony Aunt and someone will come along and help. If you would rather not ask your question publicly by all means send a personal message (PM) to Patti or myself and we will try to help.

I archive this section from time to time, so if you want a conversation that isn't going to disappear, feel free to use any of the existing threads or start your own.

Still struggling? Click the link below and tell us how we can make things better.

TonyQ (tonytheq) | 175 comments Hi, newbie Tony here. I was invited to the group by Mago (Not one of his many offspring) as I had no idea how to join groups.
I'm Tony, a middle-aged teenager living in Liverpool after a disastrous education. I enjoy most genres (except erotic stuff - eww) but recently seem to have gained a lust for urban fantasy after reading Daniel O'Malley "The Rook" and "The Devil You Know" by Mike Carey.
I am starting out writing my own stuff. I have a couple of short stories that need a bit of polishing and I am attempting to put together the first draft of something more substantial.
I am Harry Potter potty (books and films) so kinda sad that's all over now but The Hobbit is back! I have a real love for comedy too, British mainly as I find some US comedy either anarchic or simply unfunny.
Eclectic musically although my teenager side still lives in the 1980's.
Anyway just saying hi and look forward to chatting to some of you soon.
Tx

Lorna Dounaeva (lornadounaeva) | 7 comments Hi everyone!
I'm Lorna. I'm a Mum to two toddlers and I'm also a writer. My psychological thriller, FRY, will be on Amazon in March. I like to read a range of different books, including chick-lit, psychological thrillers, humour, some historical sagas and biographies. I also have a serious coffee addiction and I'm quite fond of cake.

message 46: by E.M. (new)

E.M. Powell | 24 comments Hello everyone! I've been on goodreads since April 2012 but only got my Kindle about eight weeks ago (blush). I love historical fiction & thrillers. One of my all time faves is Robert Harris's Pompeii. I also review for the Historical Novel Society. My review copy of Seth Grahame-Smith's Unholy Night arrived on Saturday- exciting! I'm also a published author, writing (surprise, surprise!) historical thrillers. And I wish I had cake. :)

message 47: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Welcome EM, to the world of cake - ooops, kindles!

message 48: by E.M. (new)

E.M. Powell | 24 comments Thanks Ignite! And I don't think anyone has brought up this important point in the p-book vs e-book debate: if you eat cake reading a p-book, then crumbs can get stuck between the pages. With a Kindle, you just brush those crumbs right off. D'you think amazon would like this for their next ad campaign?

message 49: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments You can actually lick them off a kindle.
Ermmm.. allegedly.

message 50: by D.D. Chant (new)

D.D. Chant (DDChant) | 7663 comments Hi E.M.!
