Any suggestions to the group will be much appreciated :)

message 2: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh guys I have a question for you all. D you think it would be better to vote for a book like 2 months in advance say its feb now so would you want to pick a book for April now? Giving everyone lots of time to find the book?

I was thinking of posting a thread for suggestions on what to read in April and then after 2 weeks or something ask for everyone to pik which they want to read. That would give like a month to find the chosen book?

What do you guys think?

message 7: by Maira (new)

Maira | 5852 comments Mod
or we could just make a thread where we can add excerpt from our favourite books in it. it will be fun and you can have a variety of books at your hand.

message 8: by [deleted user] (new)

I like both ideas. hmm I'll make a thread for the random excerpts for Maira's idea and I think anyone who wants to ask a question or post excerpts on the group reads books can in the threads associated with those books.

Lara Zuberi (larazuberi) | 571 comments I think my disappointment of this book stems from my high expectations of the author. I agree with your thoughts on it, in particular the absurdity of the newborn deciding whether or not he wants to live. I read and reviewed it recently

Actually pakistan's official language is english isn't it. And this group is for Pakistani readers to get together and discuss books (mainly english). A good discussion can be in any language. Aur waisey bhi urdu mein didcussion karna har kisi ke liye easy bhi nahi hota i.e. me!

But there are Pakistanis from around the world who might not even speak urdu, so we'd be alienating them. I think it should be a preference. You should start a new topic actually, "sirf urdu". Wahan only urdu!

message 27: by [deleted user] (new)

@Mubashira. Having a couple of only urdu and only punjabi threads seems a good idea. Although really most of the time the current threads change from english to urdu and so forth.

As for the whole page being urdu... Thats pretty difficult :/

Hello everyone, really happy to be a part of this wonderful group :-) I was wondering if it would be a good idea to make a counterpart group on Facebook too? This way Pakistani book lovers who are not Goodreads members can also be connected with us, plus we will have another forum to discuss books :-) I recently did this for a group that I am moderating and so far I am quite pleased with the response. Anyway, it's just a suggestion from my side, hope you all like it :-)

Ramla Zareen Ahmad | 586 comments Lara wrote: "There is a Facebook page though I don't think it's widely seen/used. I think saira made it.."

Hi Lara, thanks for letting me know. Will see if I can discover the link, it will be a pleasure to 'like' and 'follow' it :-)

Guess I should also mention that I did recently 'like' two FB pages, one titled Pakistani Readers and the other titled Pak Readers, but I am not sure if either of them were for this group.

Anyway, a FB Group is a bit different than a FB page, as I am sure you must already know, as in it allows all the members to interact with each other and everyone can post on it. It does mean slightly more work for the moderators though, as they have to kind of keep an eye on the stuff being posted, so eventually it will have to be their decision whether it's worth the extra time and effort to set it up or not.

@Ramla Zareen, @Lara

hi, How are you ? :)

Facebook group would indeed be really good, but there is the issue of managing it, we have three mods on this group, even then sometimes it becomes difficult to manage it. This is one of the reason's the facebook of the Pakistanireaders isn't active.

It can be easily made active, but we'll just need few volunteers for that. :)

Yes, I understand. Usually there are no issues but still, the FB Group would need at least a bit of supervision to confirm that no one posts inappropriate or irrelevant stuff on it. Well, as I said, it was just a suggestion. If many people are enthusiastic about this idea, and if you and the other moderators think it's appropriate, then I would like to volunteer to initiate it and post the link on this group. Though it would have to be on the trial basis and if I, or anyone else, feel that I am unable to manage it properly then I would have to close the group. Unless someone else volunteers to run it. But anyway, since this Goodreads group would be the main group, so the ultimate decision would be with the moderators of this group only.

Ramla Zareen Ahmad | 586 comments Faheem wrote: "It can be easily made active, but we'll just need few volunteers for that. :)"

The link that you provided is of the FB page. As I mentioned, a FB Group would be different as all members can post stuff on it through their individual FB identities. It makes it more interesting and interactive ...but yes, slightly more difficult to manage too!

message 41: by Ramla Zareen (new)

Ramla Zareen Ahmad | 586 comments Maybe everyone can have a better idea of what I mean by visiting the link of the FB Group that I recently created. It's the counterpart of the Goodreads group that I created earlier this year.

By the way, hope I am not breaking a rule by posting the link of my group here. If I am then please let me know and I will delete this comment. Thanks!

I liked the idea, I think other mods would like it too. Thanks for the volunteer offer, but I think you'll need help, it'll require much more time than one expects. I hope other member will also be interested so We'll have a volunteer drive. I'll discuss it with other mods.

You can ask questions in general chit chat thread "Hey Guys" or here, or send message..

Sure, any member can start a new thread, just add it in the proper section. No prior permissions needed :)
