ok, a question. Who is this narrator who refers to himself in the third person?

The person narrating the story, of course...

You'll find out later in the book. I'm still not sure of the significance of hiding his identity.

Its interesting how at first the Church ( religion ) tries to understand the meaning and purpose of the plague. Basically stating that only if you're doing evil you would be affected and if you're righteous ( a believer )that you will be unaffected.

I liked how Rieux assessed Father Paneloux's speech. "He hasn't come in contact with death; That's why he can speak with such assurance of the truth"

Rieux really believe in a duty. Human to Human our duty is to help each other. If you see a man in need you should help and not condemn.
