message 5: by Jamie (new)

Jamie (iquitelikebooks) | 54 comments Y'all should read The Raven Boys, I just finished the first three books in the series and it's a quick fun summer read imo :)

message 6: by Jamie (new)

Jamie (iquitelikebooks) | 54 comments it's not as ~true love story as the description makes it sound

message 7: by Jess (new)

Jess (jesmy777) I'm glad we're getting the group going again!

I will nominate Love Letters to the Dead and Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell. They're doing a miniseries of Strange and Norrell. I've started the book twice and get bored after about a hundred pages in... I made it to 229 last time. Maybe not the most ringing endorsement. Ha!

Jess (jesmy777) We'll have a poll next week to pick our book. Keep listing picks here and they'll all get a fair shot.

message 9: by Fabiola (new)

Fabiola | 3 comments I know I've never commented before but I've been sucked up for ages. I'm about to start my summer break & thought I could finally contribute. I'm chocobeans over at ONTD, by the way.

I'd like to put nominate Exactly Where They'd Call by Laura Rae Amos. I can't link it set the moment because I'm on my phone. I really enjoyed it and wanted to talk about it with others.

message 10: by Amira (new)

Amira (liightningbolt) | 68 comments I'll nominate The Luminaries.

There's no way I'm going through that monstrosity by myself lol

Or maybe The Secret History.

Alyssa (girlcomeundone) | 63 comments i'm zenithfish on ONTD, though i am mostly a lurker.

i'm not sure what to suggest because i'm not sure what people like so i'll nominate Burial Rites and Brain on Fire: My Month of Madness because i'm hoping to read both in the next month or so.

I've checked that book at about 4 times now and have never once cracked the cover. I think I would like it... some books are just difficult to start.

We did that one at some point, although, I think only about 5 people read it that month. I know I didn't. Ooops.

I always wonder if as a mod I should have read the books before they go up... but at the same time, I've found so many amazing books because of this group and all the the friends I've made here. I am reading things I would have never noticed before, and I like that.

Yup, it's definitely a commitment.

message 15: by Casey (new)

Casey (casey-h) | 51 comments Purple Hibiscus by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie (fiction) or Liar, Temptress, Solider, Spy: Four Women Undercover in the Civil War by Karen Abbott (non fiction). Both have been on my to read list forever.

message 16: by Joycapulet (new)

Joycapulet | 3 comments What about The Girl on The Train by Paula Hawkins? It's been getting a lot of hype

message 17: by susan (new)

susan | 17 comments I second Purple Hibiscus! I've been meaning to read it for years.

message 18: by Caroline (new)

Caroline (cblace) | 35 comments Jessica, I think it's perfectly fine if you don't preread the books before selecting them. my roommate ran a book club in person and I think she had only read one book before selection in the whole year she ran it. I think that's better because it means you don't have a preconceived notion about it.

message 19: by Jess (new)

Jess (jesmy777) Thanks for all the responses!

I'm going to make a poll now and that will be up until Monday.

message 20: by Amira (new)

Amira (liightningbolt) | 68 comments So, The Secret History won?
