Riley hummed to herself as she stretched on the floor of the lounge. It was empty at the moment, which is why she didn't mind being in a very awkward looking position as she read her book.

Ilyna twirled in through the door, a book clutched to her chest. She was so involved in her thoughts that she didn't notice Riley until she nearly stepped on her. "Oh my!"

Riley yelped when Ilyna nearly stepped on her hand, and she lost her position, smacking her rear hard on the floor. She yelped again. "Sorry, I didn't see you coming," she said.

"I didn't see me coming either, so that makes two of us," said Ilyna, spinning away. "Isn't this just the prettiest dress ever? Father sent in the package I received last night, and it has such a perfect twirling skirt. He says they're the height of fashion in Newsham!"

Riley tugged on a strand of wavy hair that had fallen loose from her braid. "I like it," she said. Secretly, she wished she could wear a dress, but her father hated dresses, and she'd feel like a traitor to wear one.

"He sent me three of them," Ilyna continued, as she settled into a chair and cracked open her book, "this one's just my favorite color. Is that a good book?"

Riley shrugged, summoning a gust of wind to blow the next page over. "Pretty good, I like it, at least."

Ilyna nodded as she buried her nose into her own book, sensing that the conversation was bordering into the awkward. "What's it about?"

Riley smiled. "It's The Lord of the Rings," she admitted.

"Ooh that! I've read it twice! I'm reading Resistance right now - Father sent it with my dresses. It's a new book, but VERY good so far."

"I think I've heard of that," Riley said. "I've been meaning to look into it. Let me know what you think of it."

"I will."

Riley changed positions. "So, what kinds of things do you like to do, other than read?"

"Oh, lots of things," Ilyna admitted, drumming on the cover of her book. "I enjoy dancing, for one. I didn't get my season, because I came here instead, but it is such fun. And, I love hair. Even when I had a maid to assist me, I would usually do it myself unless we had a party."

Riley grimaced and tugged on her braid. "My hair is so uncooperative. That's why I usually braid it, just to keep it out of my way."

"I hate days like that." Ilyna shook her head. "Braids are usually the best option when that happens, I agree."

Riley nodded. "I've gotten used to having it in a braid, I rarely ever do anything else with it." She grinned. "My roommate will probably be the only person to see me with my hair down. Although Kelia, my cousin, has seen me with my hair down."

"Perhaps I could help you with it sometime - such as if there's some special occasion or something of the sort."

Riley smiled. "If you can do anything with my tangled forest, I would be much obliged. I've been tempted to cut it off sometimes, but it's..." She fingered its length. It was the only feminine thing her dad let her have.

"I'll see what I can do."
