I am a series person my self just can't get enough of a good book

I'm more of a stand alone book person because then I can be happy knowing that's it, can't be further disappointed as I have been recently with series.
Yet I don't mind a series if they do it right just that not many can for me lately :(

Series without sad cliffhanger endings are good but with cliffhangers they make me feel depressed yet curious.

Series! Because atleast, if the first one is good, you know there's more coming, so it gets you excited and builds anticipation, whereas singles, if they're amazing and if you want more, you know you won't be getting more! If this makes no sense, I'll believe you, as I'm a very confuzzling person xD

no it makes perfect sense the only problem I find is you want more but sometimes its disappointing when the series gets a little far out there for example is any one reading or read the HON series I think there are 10 of them now and it seems when I read a book like I'm only getting a chapter at a time but the immortal series I loved that one to the end and I'v read lots of reviews that say as the series is continued they loss interest in it and only read it to finish the series

Hmmm, I think it depends. Sometimes I REALLY, REALLY want to know what's happening with the characters later on, and when that happens, I like series better. But sometimes the books that stand alone and make you crave for more are better; the author ends the story without ruining the ending. And then I don't have to wait for centuries until the next book is published.

Series. I just can't get enough! But I have enjoyed almost every Standalone book I have ever read. I can't say that for every series I have read.

I love how series keep building a storyline, which is so nice when reading paranormal and dystopian novels.

But its nice to have those books(preferably contemporary) where the whole story is in a single book. It allows a bit of a reprieve from all the ones that are part of a series.

I guess for me, it all depends on what genre I'm reading.

Sometimes you have read a whole series but by the end you don't get any closure. I need closure!

Sometimes the series drags on for too long or I lose interest. Then there's no closure anyway.

I feel like series are unnecessary for some stories, and are just how books get sold, the amount of trilogies in YA is astounding. Sometimes, yes, a full series of books is very compelling, and three books do offer a good arc. Sometimes I want one novel to be as far as the characters go. I also hate waiting years for the series to conclude. But fantasy YA never just publishes one book. It's a trend I'll have to deal with.

I think it depends on the author... I love series most of the time because if I'm in love with a world I never want it to end. I want to keep getting more. However, I think writing a good series is very difficult and not every author can pull it off. There has to be a flow within the series, for example, Mortal Instruments. I love this series but she wrote it as a trilogy and then just decided to add 3 more. The fourth book made this painfully obvious by not living up to the rest of the series (however she did make up for this in the 5th book). House of Night has too many plot changes and isn't even the same series anymore. However, there are also very successful series such as The Hunger Games or The Vampire Academy who knew when to stop and had a cohesive and well thought out story spanning across multiple books. Therefore, it really depends on the author.

I love Richelle Mead... I think she is such a good author because she really knows her story. She could definitely pull off writing a great spin off series which is even harder for author's to do.

Series - To be honest, although I've read plenty of great stand-alone books, you can fit in so much more of a developed and amazing story into a series of books! I love series, and each and every series I love leaves me thirsting for more, even if it is the last book :/

Also, as much as I love series, series are kinda supposed to be of a related topic/protagonist. I'm not saying these are bad books - I quite enjoyed them - but I'm just using them as an example.

The Graceling Trilogy. Graceling, Fire and BitterBlue are all fantastic books, but I find it really annoying when an author writes a "series" that has different protagonist. The POV's get mixed up, one book is judged by another, it's a little hard to connect and follow the different story-lines, and it's just plain annoying.
Also, the series Stravaganza does the exact same thing.

So, I love series like TMI and TID, etc. It's just when a story-line and protagonist completely changes that it annoys me :)

LOL :D, I didn't really mind the graceling thing because the proganists link together quite nicely.

There's nothing like series

I love series but I think some series just should be stand alones or just a trilogy. for example I've been reading the celestra series nd let me tell you the first 3 books were good then after the fourth I'm just like uhhhh why!!! because I have to finish the series or I'll be so mad if I don't!! so I think depends on the story sometimes I do wish some stand alones were series lol

Something that bothers me with certain series is when a different ghostwriter writes each book, leaving major plot and character holes. Such is the case with James Patterson books.

I guess for me it depends on my mood as well.

Also the good thing about a stand-alone book is that tit is only one book and it's not like a case in a series where you didn't really like the first book but just because you have read it, something forces you to want to read the second book. Gahhh I hate the feeling, I feel optimistic about a second book, I go to read it and I'm really disappointed. :(

Have you read any series that have a different author for each book? I find it really weird.

I love almost all of the singles I read.but they are gone way too fast.This is because I can read a 600 page book in 3 hours tops if it interests me. Series are better for me since they take 1 or 2 days to read and there is time in between when I gathering the next one.

I agree with the waiting part, Nardos. I lost interest in the Harry Potter series for some of that reason. I still haven't read the last two books. I'll get to them eventually, though.

Switching gears a little, which kind of series do you prefer: the ones that end on cliff hangers or the ones where ever book is a complete story with recurring characters? I'm a complete story fan myself, since it gives me a real ending to the story even when there is a much larger plot going on that hasn't been solved yet. Ending on a cliff hanger and then having to wait for the next book just bugs me. What about everyone else? Cliff hangers or complete stories?

Cliff hangers even thought it's annoying to wait for the next book to come out, i prefer cliff hangers it get me excited and i don't forget about them.

So what's up with trilogies, btw? They're everywhere!

I'm a big fan of series, for me it's an opportunity to really get invested in the characters...
But i absolutely HATEb series, that goes on for to long...

I don't think HP went on for to long, it was appropriate...
But take for example the house of night series, that has gone on, for WAY to long, in my oppinion...

For me, a series needs to stop, when the organic story ends... When that point is, differs from series to series; for some it could be at 4 books, for others at 10...

I do! Sometimes the series is stretched and stuffed with unesscesary things. Once in a while I like to read Standalone novels just to refresh myself from series.

Sometimes, it's just nice to be able to read one book and not have to read any further ones to get the full story.

Series! Although, if a book looks amazing, I will go for a stand-alone.

Series~reasons~ you get more from from the story because they are not trying to shove it all together in one single book. It is always more rewarding to finish multiple books

I prefer strand alone novels. sometimes authors will write a good! first book and depend on the success of that book to sell their crappy continuations. some books are perfect as stand alone.

Series. I wouldn't be satisfied with just one book. The characters and story, especially in fantasy or dystopia, wouldn't have so much space to further develop.
