I'm glad we don't have to complete each challenge within a certain month/s like last year - it was a pain reading "chunksters" during the two busiest months of the year. And speaking of "chunksters," I don't see a category for them, and since I'm on page 59 of a 666 page book, I'd really appreciate one.
Let me make sure I've got this clear, the 1 point challenges are done once with 1 book while the 5 point challenges require 5 books but are still only completed the once, is that right?
I'll let Bookworm clarify, but that sounds about right to me.Plus, I believe if you ask nicely, he may be open to challenge suggestions. Or maybe not. (But, it doesn't hurt to try.)
I will add a 'chunksters' category of books over 500 pages.
Five point challenges - I was thinking you would get one point for each book you read in that challenge, upto a maximum of five points.

Oh, Mr. Moderator! I have a question.I'm planning to read a book by a man named Smith who also happens to be Canadian.
Can I count the same book under both challenges?
What if I find a graphic novel by a Canadian named Smith that's over 500 pages and it's been on my Kindle for a while? Do I get extra points if I read it while crossing the international dateline?
Melki, is this an attempt to befuddle me? Well, it has almost worked.
I think I'm going to have to say you can only have one point - pick a category and go with it.
If it were a Star Trek book, by a Canadian, five hundred pages, blah blah, then you could have one extra point.

Still waiting for Bookworm to return and answer all our questions. He only has one little baby to care for. How much work can THAT be?

Attention, Attention
I have though up another great idea - Special Monthly Challenges
Yes, since there are not enough challenges I'm going to add more. The twist, you will not know the challenge in advance and it will be limited in time to that one month.
I will start this for the month of March with the "Lucky Seven Challenge"...my daughter is turning seven this March, so this challenge is close to my heart.

Excuse me, Mr Moderator? I wonder if we could have a master-list of all the challenges somewhere please? Just so I don't keep trawling the threads to try to remember what the topics are and getting distracted by the conversations and then forgetting what I came here to do in the first place, and "oh look, a pretty butterfly...."?
*flutters eyelashes*
EDIT - Oh wait. Most of them show up when you look at the discussion menu. I think there's only one folder you have to go into to see all the threads.
Hello, just joined the group and loved reading through the challenges you have listed. They look fun and "do-able" unlike some of these other crazy challenge groups I have seen. Are you planning for 2014 yet?
Hi, Stephanie! Knowing Bookworm, he's got plenty more challenges in store for us next year. He's shared some of the ideas with me, but I'll let him tell you all about them when he's good and ready.

Just joined. Like Stephanie, I enjoyed reading through some past challenges. Can't wait to see what's in store for 2014.
Hi again... Just checking in. Is there going to be a new set of challenges for 2014? Or will the posted challenge items still be in use for 2014?
Um, I guess I've been away for awhile...
Sorry for the delay, I am planning on getting this year's challenges up and running right now! *Poof*
...nothing happened? Dang it! I'm going to have to do some typing and stuff.

Well...you can go nuts, on your own time. I should clarify the five limit maximum per challenge.
Five (as in 5) point limit per challenge.
I should also clarify each book can only be used in one challenge.
Boy, I am the bad guy today?!

Been part of this group for awhile and love it. I just have a question regarding audio books. I don't listen to them often but will sometimes on a long car ride. Can they be included in the challenges or not?

Quick question... I'm Jody, new to the group (Yay!) Just wondering if I can add any of the books I read previously this year to the challenges, as long as they qualify or does it have to be from when you join the group?
Hi Jody, welcome to the group! We're glad you found us!We let newcomers add books they read up to three months back from when they join. If you've got them on your "Read" list from March, April, or May, we'll count 'em!
https://www.amazon.ca/Pearl-that-Brok...This book takes place in Kabul, featuring a girl who lives as a boy, and might meet some challenge's requirements. It's 19$ OFF TODAY, so it's only 2 bucks atm! Yours, Jen from Quebec :0)
Kate wrote: "I'm just wondering if we could include French books in our challenges"Sure, Kate! As long as they fit the challenge, we'll take them.
Jen wrote: "Can a book fulfill two challenge categories? Such as Rebecca in one word title and mystery?"Nope. One challenge per book.
In the Monthly Challenges, does the book have to be started and finished in the given month or just finished in that month?
Wanda wrote: "In the Monthly Challenges, does the book have to be started and finished in the given month or just finished in that month?"Monthly Challenge books have to be finished in that month.

I always made the assumption that they had to be started and finished in the same month. I'm glad somebody asked! So you are saying that as long as it is started in the current year and finished in the current month, it qualifies for the monthly challenge?

I'm assuming it won't take you a year to read something, lol! I was thinking more along the lines of "you started the book on January 28th and finished it on February 7th" but if I'm missing something, fill me in. I generally don't go back to see when someone started a book, only when they finished it.

That makes sense to me. I have always just waited until the first of the month to start them anyway. And you are right, I don't remember the last time a book took me a month to read even though I usually have at least 3 or 4 on the go at the same time.

I've been reading Hercule Poirot's Casebook which is a very thick book. Not sure when I actually started reading it. I usually read one story a night, I'm almost finished and was just wondering if I could count it. But I definitely started it before Jan 28.

So excited! For the first time since I joined this group, I completed the maximum number of books in each of the 12 yearly challenges! Love this group! It has certainly expanded my reading and introduced me to books I may never have discovered. So looking forward to the new list!
