Mason stood outside the donut shop, looking a bit sad. He realy wanted one of the tasty treats but he had no money to spend on getting one.
Nova looked in the window outside Delectable Donuts. Mmm, donuts. Fresh donuts. The perfect treat to make her happy. Perhaps one with rainbow sprinkles? Oh, maybe chocolate covered? Gosh, it was such a hard choice. Like her life depended on it... which it kind of did. She saw Mason, who was standing next to her and smiled. "Why the sad look?" she asked him.
Mason looked up at the older girl "I gots no money" He told her, with a childish dramatic sigh, as if not having a donut was the worst thing.
Nova scrunched up her forehead. She noticed that Mason was alone, which was quite suspicious. He was very young and she didn't see anyone around that could be his parent. Maybe he had a babysitter? "Where are your parents or guardian?" she asked him. Hopefully he wouldn't scream and run away after a second screaming stranger danger.
Mason shrugged "I dunno, Mommy disappeared a while ago" He answered, looking a little distrusting of Nova "You're not a bad stranger right?" He asked.

Nova felt sorry for Mason at the thought of his mother disappearing. "Oh no, I'm Nova," she said. "Which doughnut would you like?" she asked. She didn't know if she was offering him a free doughnut or not but if she was she be glad to.
Mason turned back to the donuts in the window, looking carefully at them all. "Can I have a sprinkle one?" He asked, looking back at Nova. She had to be good, because she was going to get him a donut "I'm Mason He told her after a minute.
Nova thought for a moment. She couldn't just give him a doughnut, could she? It would be a little odd... wouldn't it? But she couldn't resist, he was so cute. "Mmm... only if you say the magic word," she smiled.
Mason beamed at her "Please Miss Nova" He said, trying to look as cute as possible. He had a donut on the line here.
Nova laughed. Boy, he was so cute. "Okay, but you better thank me," she smirked. She had to give him a doughnut with her own money. She just had to.
Mason threw his arms around her and hugges Nova tight "Thank you so much" He said, stepping back, a toothy grin on his face. "You're awesome" He added.
Nova laughed, hugging him back. She loves kids. She entered the donut shop, and after a moment returned with a sprinkled donut and chocolate covered donut, for herself.
Mason's eyes followed Nova's every step, hisbeyes going to the donut. It had been so long since he had gotten one, thinking about it, it had been before his mom disappeared.
Nova couldn't make him feel spoiled, so she decided to make him, well, not feel spoiled. She put the donut above her head in front of him and said, "what do you say?"
"May I please have the donut?" He asked, his eyes still on the donut. Mason looked to her for a moment with his big blue eyes, thinking for a moment that he wouldn't get the donut.
Nova shook her head. "Yes, but I'm thinking of something else with two words," she said. "Two words," she repeated.
"Thank you?" He questioned, tears rapidly filling his eyes. Was she going to keep the donut from him? He hoped she was still going to give it to him.
"Correct!" Nova exclaimed, and handed the donut to Mason. Wow, kids... they get upset so quickly. Was she like this? Her childhood became a bit of a blur.
((Lol!))Nova smiled. "Now are you going to eat the donut, or what?" she asked him. He better eat it after all this time. Well, he would with no doubt.
Mason bit into the donut, eating the treat quickly. He wiped his mouth with the back of his hand. "Thank you again" The 4 year old said.
"You're welcome!" Nova exclaimed. Wow, that was pretty quick. Mason must have had an appetite. She kept on wondering where he lived though, because no one's with him. Maybe he lives close? This only made Nova feel concerned.
Mason watched Nova, he didn't want her to know he was alone at home "Are you from here?" He asked, wanting to keep the subject off of himself and his living situation.
((But Mason figured due to past experience, that she would bring it up. He's trying to keep the conversation away from it, before she brings it up))
((Okay.))"I live in Utopia," Nova replied. "I'm just wandering around, it's a little boring with the whole Disappearance and all," she said.
Mason nodded "I know everyone will come back, they gotta" He said, holding onto his childlike optimism. "I know my Momma would never leave me for long"
Nova felt really bad for Mason. He must really miss his family, it was almost heartbreaking. "Hope..." she said. "That's a really good thing to have," she said.
Mason nodded "Momma promised me that she would never leave me, so I just know she'll come back and so will your family" He told her, as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.
Nova smiled sadly. She didn't exactly want her family back, but couldn't admit that to Mason. "She would come back," she admitted. "Your mother would come back. My family didn't treat me very well, actually. They were always busy with my sisters and never paid attention to me."
Mason frowned at that "That's dumb" He said, it seemed like such a terrible thing to him, that his new found friend wasn't given much attention. "You should find a new family, one that will love you" He suggested.
Nova frowned. "It's a little impossible to just come into a new family," she shook her head. Plus, most people have disappeared, so she couldn't do that anyways.
Mason tilted his head "But there's lots of people, just become a family" He said, stuck in the mind set that it was easy.
"I have three sisters. Beatrice, who's a big drama queen, Adeline, who isn't very smart and Melody who's also a big drama queen. Me? I'm the normal girl, who's pretty smart and doesn't need help. So my parents are always paying attention to Adeline, Beatrice and Melody. Isn't fair, is it?" Nova asked. Mason probably thought she was going too fast.
Mason raised an eyebrow, he lost track of what she was saying. "English please?" He asked in an innocent way.
"Oh, sorry. That was in English, I just talk fast sometimes," Nova laughed. She forgot she was talking to a four year old, pretty much.
Mason giggled at her, before giving Nova a big smile "Will you be my friend?" Mason asked, giving her a hopeful look. He wanted more friends.
"Of course I'd be your friend!" Nova exclaimed. He seemed to be becoming cuter and cuter by the minute. "Of course!"
Mason clapped, hugging Nova again "Thank you so much!" He exclaimed happily, he loved the thought of having more friends. "I think my momma would like you" He said.
Nova grinned. "Really? She would?" she asked. She was still feeling so sorry for the 'loss' of Mason. Even if she never had a real mother. Well, she did. But one that loved her.
Mason nodded excitedly "Yeah, cause my Momma is super nice and loves lots of people, 'specially my friends" He told her, his smile still bright, he honestly hoped that his mom was out there still.
"Oh, wow. Thanks," Nova smiled. "So you have brothers and sisters?" she asked him. Ooh, a mini Mason... twice as cute... if only.
Mason shook his head "Nope, it was just me and Momma" Mason answered her, he wished he had more siblings "Momma was talking 'bout it, but then she disappeared" He added.
"Did she disappear right before your eyes, you mean?" Nova asked. It was a little scary thought, just saying hi and then you blink and they're gone.
Mason shook his head "No,we was playing at the park and Momma was on the bench. I went to go get her and she was just gone. I looked everywhere but Momma was no where" He answered. "I think she just gots lost" The innocent kid added.
