In this seemingly twisted yet romantic novel, gifted author Katie Mcgarry tells the enthralling, complex and intense story of a young teenage girl trying to find the truth, in her mess of a life. Echo Emerson, the girl with "freaky" scars on her arms, was the popular girl with the boyfriend jock wrapped around her arm, when one night all that changed. Now although we dont find out what Echo stumbled upon that night, until the end of the book, Katie Mcgarry took an edgy turn when she introduce her second main character. Noah Hutchins, the good-looking, girl-using , loner, happens to show up in Echos life at the wrong time but surely for all the right reasons. Noah however is in a predicament of his own and may be just what Echo needs, despite that there is a mutual hatred between the two. Katie keeps the ball rolling, with plenty of unpredictable discoveries, and a fruitfulness of compelling obstacles. Noah and Echo must make life changing decisions to overcome their fears and repair what was once a mess. In the midst of all the bitter bearings, Noah and Echo may find them selfs having feelings they never would've considered before.
With this particular novel Katie accomplished a tremendous story line. While creating a realistic environment she was able to pull my attention further and further into her book. Katie, unlike many other authors, was able to portray a whole new kind of hero, by using modern day references and connecting with her readers. Instead of fictionalizing the hero, she took the bad boy Noah Hutchins and created a bitter-sweet romance for Echo Emerson. Katie unquestionably created a compelling, intense story for many young adults and teens to enjoy. Typically many people would categorize this type of novel for women, but in fact with the descriptive language and visual effects that Katie creates, I would beg to differ. This book was hard to turn away from and could be read over and over again. With many intense moments and unforgettable situations every page will leave you awe.
