Flora Smith (bookwormflo) I would actually give this paranormal romance 3.5 stars but I stretched it up to 4 stars because I liked it well enough that I want to continue the series.

This one reminded me a lot of Twilight. I admit that I haven’t read Twilight but I’ve seen the movie and that’s got to count for something. It’s a teen paranormal romance with the guy’s (Ethan’s) POV which is a bit different. Lena is a Castor(witch) and the new girl in school. The story is set in a small town in the south complete with small mindedness and the fear of anyone different.

It took me a while to get into this story but it was worth it. Once you get past 100 pages you are hooked. I loved Lena’s family members, even the bad guys. Some things that happened you saw coming but other things not so much. There is also a bit of a mystery to solve and a curse to break and so many questions you want answered. And even though they tried to say that once you are claimed you are either all good or all bad, you know, and you can tell, that its not that way. Rarely is one either completely good or completely bad.

Overall, I enjoyed the story and I am looking forward to the movie coming out soon. If you enjoy paranormal romance, especially teen, then you should read this one.

Harold Smithson | 30 comments I agree with your assessment that the characters were neither all good nor all bad, but I found that this did not necessarily translate into complexity with the exceptiong of a few scenes (Ridley's "one good deed") regarding the main cast. The side characters were left as all bad, which I find kind of hurts the story's central message of human "grays". I also found the writing lacking.

I'm not trying to hurt your review, but considering that reviews are made to encourage or discourage others from reading books, I think it is a good idea to present both positive and negative reviews.

message 3: by Jax (new) - rated it 4 stars

Jax @ Flora - Nya-ha! I wasn't the only one who read it and thought... TWILIGHT!! :D
I both read the books, and watched the movies...
Again - Books better than the movie - but still definitely YA with all the Teen Angst. :-)

I had much the same reaction as you - and then I read Beautiful Darkness, and quit.
Only, I haven't done a review, as I don't want to end up being (even in part) the reason for a lawsuit - as the similarities were just EVERYWHERE!
Granted - Meyer wasn't exactly all fresh & original either...

Beautiful Creatures was enjoyable enough to get me to pick up Beautiful Darkness, But definitely not a favorite.
