Lisadh | 3 comments I am about halfway into SL's newest. I really like it, so far. Anyone else reading/read it?

HJ | 52 comments I have finished it, but I'll try to avoid big spoilers in case someone sees this before they have read it.

I re-read The Tempting of Thomas Carrick first, because A Match for Marcus Cynster is really the continuation of it. I don't think either book could be read without the other; for example, one wouldn't properly understand why Marcus has the right background and training to be a consort without knowing the role he played for Lucilla in the Vale.

The twist at the beginning (about the baddie) is good. I'm glad that there was an explanation later for the odd behaviour of the young clansmen, because I found it hard to believe initially. I like the couple, but I felt their relationship moved too quickly, especially in circumstances in which she was feeling harassed.

I enjoyed it, and look forward to a discussion once everyone else has finished!

Lisadh | 3 comments I enjoyed the book, too. I didn't mind the speed of their relationship; I felt that SL explained enough of how they've always known each other, even if not constantly, and that there's always been "something". Not too much of a stretch to think that time and age can help spark things along.

I liked this different mood from SL. I like that she does different settings, but still maintains her style and comfort zone. It should be interesting to see Marcus' cousins find their way in a changing world - one that SL hasn't written about, yet. Before that, though, we get the Adventurer's Series. High Seas Adventure!

In a twist of her words: as long as she keeps writing them, I'll keep reading them. :-)

Ann Holland (hummyfan) | 2 comments I think I was the only one who panned The Tempting of Thomas Carrick. IF YOU READ IT FIRST THEN IMMEDIATELY DIVE INTO A Match for Marcus Cynster, all of the themes and plot twists make sense. I have a historical fiction "keepers" bookcase. All of Stephanie Laurens' books except for The Tempting of Thomas Carrick are shelved as keepers, just waiting for me to enjoy rereading them.

HJ | 52 comments The audiobook of this and some other Stephanie Laurens books are very reasonably priced in Audible UK's current (Easter) sale.
