Mrs. Eriksson's Summer Reading Challenge 2015 discussion

Post about the first book you read this summer. This is a review, not a summary. Tell why you liked it/didn't like it and whether you would recommend it.

Right now, I'm reading and loving Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom. I will post a review when I finish.

Right now, I am reading The Best Of Me by Nicholas Sparks. I don't read much romance, so I think Nicholas Sparks is a good author to read when I am getting into this genre.

I just started the Owls with Diabetes by David Sedaris. I love it! I hope instead of Kahoot It, we have SSR.

I just started "Pride and Prejudice". I really enjoy it so far, it is even kind of humorous. This is my first classic read.

I'd like to finish Eleanor & park first :3

I just finished The Catcher in the Rye. Great book for great thinkers. Plot was hard to spot for me, but the author has a lot of great meaning behind each of his characters.

Oh all that is holy. I loved the David Sedaris book. It was the Owls one. It was hysterical, and it had me cackling out loud... In public... Multiple times. I tollay suggest it if you want a quick read and short stories.

Just finished Murder in Baker Street. A good one to help me get to the new Sherlocks on PBS. This is a collection of short stories based on the Sherlock character but by various authors. I love mysteries.

I just finished Althea and Oliver by Christina Moracho, and I loved it. It was definitely a fast read, a record of two days. Woah. I liked how it was hilarious, but serious, when it needed to be. It was edgy. I don't think anyone could be disappointed if they decided to pick it up.

Emylee, I have that in my stack! I may just read it next. I just finished Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe. It was really good!

Just finished Red Velvet Cupcake Mystery. A campy murder mystery based around a bakery. Fluke usually delivers a good fun read. Enough of this kind of reading, I need to get to some more substantial reads. Oops just saw this should go under 2nd book, oh well I'll post there next.

I read Red Light by T. Jefferson Parker, and I really liked it. It was a good mystery even if it did get rid of all of the mystery at the end.

I just finished reading Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. It was defiantly a social comedy set in the English countryside at the end of the 18th century. I was quickly hooked by the wonderfully drawn characters, the razor-sharp picture of an oppressively culture, and the strong woman. I will probably have to read Pride and Prejudice again because it was hard to comprehend how they spoke in the 18th century but overall it was a pretty good book for my first classic read.

Read "The Boy on the Porch". It was a good book with an ending I had always predicted. It got sad when Jacob had to leave, but I had always had a hunch that he would come back eventually. I would recommend it as a good quick read. I read the entire book in 2 hours.

I just finished Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. At some points I wasn't sure what was supposed to happen next but other points I felt like I could predict what was going to happen. It's definitely taken me a little while to get my books read with my crazy summer schedule but I'm trying to work it in there.

I just finished Tuesday's With Morrie and I am just amazed by how much it related to me and how much I loved it!

Morrie and Mitch had a relationship, a connection that was truly a great thing for both of them to experience. I found myself connected to them in almost the same way: I felt the same emotions they felt; in fact I kept finding myself batting back tears. I shared a similar relationship with my Grandfather, with similar situations in his last couple months. This book brought back so many memories along with allowing me to experience it all again. I am truly glad I picked up this book. Actually, in all honesty I wasn't sure I was going to read it. Yes, Mrs. Eriksson, you suggested it to me and said that I was going to love it, but for some reason, I still had some doubt. I don't really have the words to describe how this book touched me and how much I loved it but I know that it was one amazingly and beautifully written book. Having all the emotions you could ever imagine, smashed in between 192 pages, now that's what I call an amazing book.

I just finished reading Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. I loved the book, I didn't know going into the story that the pictures were real and that the author wrote the story around the photos until I was finished. This made the book so much better to me, not sure why but it did. I cannot wait to read the sequel.

I have been very busy this summer with work, fairs, and my mom having surgeries. I am just getting to sit down and read for the summer. the first book I finished is The Perfect Game by J. Sterling. I have read this book before, but I was trying to figure out the deeper meaning of the quarters that are brought up throughout the novel. I was not able to figure out the deeper meaning, but I want to read it again once I read a few more books. It is driving me crazy not being able to find a deeper meaning. The book The Last Lecture was on my summer list along with Jane Eyre. However, my copies are packed away in a box and I haven't found them yet. Now I am going to go through the books on my mother's kindle to find my next books.

I just finished The Hit by Melvin Burgess. A new drug is on the street. Everyone's buzzing about it. Take the hit. Live the most intense week of your life. Then die. This book has plenty of action and thrill. The setting is in England. The characters have an English accent which makes you question a few words. Overall this book was pretty good and I would read more books by this author.

I read Wonder by R.J.. Palacio. I highly recommend it! This book was filled with ups and downs. I found myself constantly wanting to help August go through the many obstacles he had due to his abnormality. I hated Julian throughout the book. The camp incident was an emotional roller coaster. The ending was great, and overall it was a great book.

I just finished Undertown by Michael Buckley. I read it in 8 hours. I just couldn't put it down. It's fast paced with a protagonist pretty much anyone can relate too. The sequel hasn't come out yet, but I'm waiting for it to hit the shelves.

I read the book Dracula by Bram Stoker. I wanted to read more classic novels this summer, and this book did not disappoint. I liked it, and the way it was told entirely by diary entries from the different characters themselves. I recommend it to anyone who has ever been into the whole "supernatural" craze. You can really see where the vampire stereotypes come from in this book that started it all.

I read David and Goliath: Underdogs, Misfits, and the Art of Battling Giants. It was a very good book that teaches and shows in real life examples of fighting real life "giants".

I read Dirty Rotten Scoundrel by Liliana Hart. I liked it. It was a great book and did a good job at continuing the series and leaves you hanging at the end so that you want to read the next book. I would recommend it.

I read The Notebook for my first book. It didn't take me long to read. In my opinion it is way better than the movie and I strongly suggest it.

I read All the Flowers in Shanghai by Duncan Jepsen. I liked it until it got super depressing.

I read the Best of Me by Nicholas Sparks. I really enjoyed this book. I think that the story was very original and it had a great story line. The ending was very unexpected, but I still really enjoyed it.

I read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson was a really dark book with some unseen horrors

The first book I read was The Only Game by Mike Lupica. It is a great book and I would recommend it to others.

The first book I read was Jaws by Peter Benchley. I did not enjoy it because I felt like I was reading a soap opera.

I read crank by Ellen Hopkins. I liked it a lot and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for something with a rough topic.
