Jim (jimmaclachlan) | 744 comments Super! I've read all her books & found this one of the best. Roach's narrative abilities & sense of humor were perfect for this subject & our strange attitudes toward it. It's both an obsession & taboo. We're spending billions to study just about everything, but don't really understand our own sexuality & are just now learning some of the secrets of the mechanics of it - when & if the funding is available.

Every generation believes they practically invented sex (Surely our parents & grandparents weren't as randy as we are!) yet immaculate conception isn't even all that common in myth. We tend to think our attitudes & prejudices are natural, yet we rarely examine them even when it's obvious that other times & cultures have entirely different view points.

It's a very strange & interesting topic. Should be a lot of fun discussion.

I couldn't wait, so I just now finished listening to the audiobook version of Bonk. It is a lot better than I expected. Perhaps because Sandra Burr does such a great job narrating the audiobook. Here is my review.

Jim (jimmaclachlan) | 744 comments Glad you liked it so much, David. I'll have to look for the audio version. I was laughing out loud reading it, so I imagine a good reader would have me howling. "How would you feel about a trip to England, dear?" LOL! It's a good thing her husband is a good sport.

One little quibble, but I don't think Viagra fixed what men will do. If I recall correctly, it's still happening today. A thriving, back-alley industry.
:(

Jim (jimmaclachlan) | 744 comments Anyone else reading this? My favorite part was when she asks her husband if he wants to got to England. Yes, there's a catch. I sometimes wonder what it would be like being married to her. Quirky doesn't come close to describing her!

I'm shocked & appalled at where some of our best knowledge comes from - a whore house! It amazes me how tough funding is for such an important topic. And the chop shops in the Far East! Oy! Scary. I suppose impotence is awful, but such risks!!!

Mochajunkie | 12 comments I plan to. I have this book, but I've recently moved and can't find it. I hope to unpack the rest of my books and organize them before the end of the month.

I've enjoyed everything I have read by her. Packing for Mars is a favorite.

Nancy Mills (nancyfaym) | 489 comments I just bought it but haven't started it...reading an old English novel that's dragging on and on. I really liked Stiff. She's very funny!

Nancy Mills (nancyfaym) | 489 comments This is hilarious. And extremely informative. I didn't know how much I didn't know. And I'm laughing out loud every two minutes.

That's the way it struck me, too. Hard to believe after a fairly active sex life & 30+ years of marriage, 3 kids, & a grandkid that I could still learn so much. Her sense of humor is perfect for me, too. She's never over the top, either.
