Merit chooses to delay telling Ethan about her officially becoming a member of the Red Guard after Lacey followed her. Was this realistic considering the risk or a ploy by the author?

I really despise the keeping secrets trope and am really thankful that Neill avoided having it in play for too long. Merit's delay made sense to me but I was very pleased that she told Ethan and just in time too.

I was happy that this thing didn't drag out, too. At first I thought Merit was nuts for putting off talking to Ethan after Lacey saw her with Jonah but how it played out seemed to work fine.

I agree with you both. I was super relieved that it didn't drag on and on. I understood Merit's delay as Ethan was already dealing with so much.

I was wondering if she was actually going to tell Ethan about joining the RG or if she would make up another story altogether. I'm glad she went with the truth.

Lying to someone you love is never a good idea. Ethan would never have trusted her again and he would have been justified.
