I also have Ghoul, so we can make it a double feature (if the first book is good). I'm about 50 pages so far and don't understand the 1890s angle yet. I'll let you know when I'm at 100.
I'm at p66. The present time parts are quite good, but hard to keep track of so many different police organizations and characters. I read in the back of the book that Michael Slade is the pen name of three criminal insanity lawyers.
Just read the first chapter titles Axeman. The depiction of his childhood was pretty disturbing. I really want to know how all these storylines will fit
Yes me too. I'm a little confused with the crystal and Susanna? (might be savanna) story. Any insight? I was thinking she might be axeman's mom? Prob not. Confused!
It was mentioned that axman's mother died somehow when he was 8. I got the feeling that he might have accidentally killed her trying to rid her of a second child she was pregnant with. Axman is an also adult in 1950-whenever, so Susanna couldn't be the mother.I have a feeling he was on his way to be "punished" in the torture chamber.
I just noticed that my book has the following on the back cover:"Don't try to guess who it is.
Try not to scream when you find out."
Do you think that the killer could end up being one of the main characters? Let's see if we can guess who it is before it's revealed.
My first guess is that it's the Russian guy, Avacomovitch. He said he defected to the US for the challenge of chasing those who kill for the sheer pleasure of it and was present in E Germany at the end of a series of "gay sex" murders.
This book came at a perfect time. I'm going to visit my sister in New Orleans in 2 weeks and I was telling her about the axeman. She said there's a saying that as long as you are listening to jazz, he won't come and get you! Love it!
That's pretty cool! My sister moved there a year ago. I'm so jealous! I've actually tried reading Every Dead Thing. I think it was a group read. It was good, but I just didn't finish. One day I will. I think I just got bored:(
I'm on page 107 and I felt like a lot of tedious information was given without any action by DeClercq about the murders, who he is working with, and his personal past. I had to take a break after that chapter.
The chapter called Psycho was very insightful. The psychological profile of the killer seems spot on. I have no idea who it could be. Maybe Declerq himself....haha!
So Blake is finally mentioned again. I recall he was the very first chapter. Im on pg215. It's very interesting. Im just relieved that the chapters are short so it keeps me going. Really want to read ghoul, so I'm gonna try to finish this.
I don't blame you. Last Days was amazing! Still trying to figure out how to write a review that would give it justice.
Sorry, guys. I was trying to finish up Imajica on audio and it is killing me. This read does not make me want to run back to it though and yes, the short chapters help a little bit.
Oh god, oh god....this is boring me! And I hate to say this because so many ppl have seemed to have liked it. But at this point there is way too much investigation and not enough sick and twisted story to go around. Im much more interested in Sparky than Declerq's mental breakdown! Damn spellcheck! Sorry, that's my vent for today:)

So Andy, have you read this before? How bout Ghoul? I found a hardback copy and wud like to read that one as well.
