Addy | 1944 comments So far it's me and Andy. Feel free to join us!

So Andy, have you read this before? How bout Ghoul? I found a hardback copy and wud like to read that one as well.

Andy (manicsloth) | 787 comments I also have Ghoul, so we can make it a double feature (if the first book is good). I'm about 50 pages so far and don't understand the 1890s angle yet. I'll let you know when I'm at 100.

message 3: by Addy (new) - added it

Addy | 1944 comments I don't get it either. Just that Indians are involved somehow.

message 4: by Addy (new) - added it

Addy | 1944 comments I'd love to make it a double feature! It gets better at 100.

Andy (manicsloth) | 787 comments I'm at p66. The present time parts are quite good, but hard to keep track of so many different police organizations and characters. I read in the back of the book that Michael Slade is the pen name of three criminal insanity lawyers.

Addy | 1944 comments Yeah, I thought that was neat. Hoping to get back to this tonight:)

Addy | 1944 comments Have you gotten to the axeman parts? Weird and creepy!

message 8: by Andy (new) - added it

Andy (manicsloth) | 787 comments Just read the first chapter titles Axeman. The depiction of his childhood was pretty disturbing. I really want to know how all these storylines will fit

message 9: by Addy (new) - added it

Addy | 1944 comments Yes me too. I'm a little confused with the crystal and Susanna? (might be savanna) story. Any insight? I was thinking she might be axeman's mom? Prob not. Confused!

message 10: by Andy (new) - added it

Andy (manicsloth) | 787 comments It was mentioned that axman's mother died somehow when he was 8. I got the feeling that he might have accidentally killed her trying to rid her of a second child she was pregnant with. Axman is an also adult in 1950-whenever, so Susanna couldn't be the mother.

I have a feeling he was on his way to be "punished" in the torture chamber.

Andy (manicsloth) | 787 comments I just noticed that my book has the following on the back cover:

"Don't try to guess who it is.
Try not to scream when you find out."

Do you think that the killer could end up being one of the main characters? Let's see if we can guess who it is before it's revealed.

My first guess is that it's the Russian guy, Avacomovitch. He said he defected to the US for the challenge of chasing those who kill for the sheer pleasure of it and was present in E Germany at the end of a series of "gay sex" murders.

message 12: by Addy (new) - added it

Addy | 1944 comments Yes, we shud do that. Although right now, I have no idea! Good guess though.

Addy | 1944 comments This book came at a perfect time. I'm going to visit my sister in New Orleans in 2 weeks and I was telling her about the axeman. She said there's a saying that as long as you are listening to jazz, he won't come and get you! Love it!

message 14: by Andy (new) - added it

Andy (manicsloth) | 787 comments So your sister had heard of axeman before? Crazy! Guess what, I also have a sister living in NOLA.

message 15: by Andy (new) - added it

Andy (manicsloth) | 787 comments You should pick up Every Dead Thing by John Connolly. It's another New Orleans book.

message 16: by Addy (new) - added it

Addy | 1944 comments That's pretty cool! My sister moved there a year ago. I'm so jealous! I've actually tried reading Every Dead Thing. I think it was a group read. It was good, but I just didn't finish. One day I will. I think I just got bored:(

Ms. Nikki (miznikki) | 5 comments I'm joining ;)

message 18: by Addy (new) - added it

Addy | 1944 comments Yay! I'm only 170 pages in. Can't wait to see your thoughts on this one!

message 19: by Andy (new) - added it

Andy (manicsloth) | 787 comments I'll also pick it up again either tonight or tomorrow. Welcome Ms. Nikki!

Ms. Nikki (miznikki) | 5 comments I'm on page 107 and I felt like a lot of tedious information was given without any action by DeClercq about the murders, who he is working with, and his personal past. I had to take a break after that chapter.

Ms. Nikki (miznikki) | 5 comments Thanks for the welcome!

message 22: by Addy (new) - added it

Addy | 1944 comments Lol. I felt the same way. I feel like it's starting to get good now.

message 23: by Addy (new) - added it

Addy | 1944 comments The chapter called Psycho was very insightful. The psychological profile of the killer seems spot on. I have no idea who it could be. Maybe Declerq himself....haha!

message 24: by Addy (new) - added it

Addy | 1944 comments So Blake is finally mentioned again. I recall he was the very first chapter. Im on pg215. It's very interesting. Im just relieved that the chapters are short so it keeps me going. Really want to read ghoul, so I'm gonna try to finish this.

Andy (manicsloth) | 787 comments Ill car kit open again tonight. I've been catching up on Last Days and it's very engrossing.

message 26: by Addy (new) - added it

Addy | 1944 comments I don't blame you. Last Days was amazing! Still trying to figure out how to write a review that would give it justice.

message 27: by Ms. Nikki (new) - added it

Ms. Nikki (miznikki) | 5 comments Sorry, guys. I was trying to finish up Imajica on audio and it is killing me.

This read does not make me want to run back to it though and yes, the short chapters help a little bit.

message 28: by Addy (new) - added it

Addy | 1944 comments Oh god, oh god....this is boring me! And I hate to say this because so many ppl have seemed to have liked it. But at this point there is way too much investigation and not enough sick and twisted story to go around. Im much more interested in Sparky than Declerq's mental breakdown! Damn spellcheck! Sorry, that's my vent for today:)

Gah, Don't tell me that. I am almost at the DNF point :(
