I stuck with it because I've been wanting to read it for a long time. I've had it on my physical bookshelf, unread, since 2004, plus it's book one of a series, so I can count it toward the series challenge. The second book in the series is on the 1001 list that I'm also trying to make a dent in, so no harm no foul! :)

. I'm still trying to figure out if I found it depressing because I've been in a strange mood this week, or if it is just a depressing book. I did enjoy it though. I read it for Academy Award (book which has been made into a movie.)I also read Unleashed (Erotica) and The Windup Girl (Nebula award).
