DHASG Long Hot Summer Challenge

Duration: 1 June 2015-30 September 2015

Introduction: Summer is almost here. We’ll start our summer festivities early on the DHASG with our summer quarterly challenge. Let’s celebrate four months of summer!

Rules:

1. Any member of the DHASG may participate in the challenge.
2. Members can sign up as soon as the challenge is posted and anytime through 11:59pm September 30th.
3. Members should post their initial and final stats (and are welcome to post any updates in between) on this thread.
4. A book may count only once for each option of the challenge. Books may be used in both options, if members choose to complete both options.
5. Books can overlap with any monthly or yearly challenges on the group.
6. Books must be read between June 1st and September 30th.
7. When listing your stats, please indicate the name of the book, the author, and why it's being used (term that applies or what it's being use to spell out).

Option A: Word Association

Instructions: The member can choose terms or phrases they would associate with summertime and read a book for each phrase. You can use the book cover, author name, character name, setting, synopsis, series name.

Option B: Spell-it-Out

Instructions: The member can choose from a list of terms/phrases associated with summertime and spell out the terms using books read during the challenge.

You can spell out the terms in any of the following ways:

*First, middle, last name of author
*Name or nickname of character
*First letter of first word of book title
*If you use a word with X as a letter, you may use any first word of the book title or name of character or author that contains X.
*A, And, The, do not count as words.

Levels:

1. Record-Breaking High: Spell out word with 14 or more letters.
2. Heat Wave: Spell out word with 9-13 letters.
3. 100 Degrees in the Shade: Spell out word with minimum of eight letters.

Pretty sure I'm making this more complicated in my head than it really is lol... but basically option A is where you take a book/author/character that reminds you of summer and option B is where you have a summer phrase and you spell it out using the titles? For example:

And so on or do the authors/books still have to be associated with summer?

For option B, you can use any of the above to spell out the words.

Right. Option A is where you take things that remind you of summer and associate books with them. For instance, Flip Flops, a book where the character wears flip flops. Another choice could be a book with Burning in the name Burning Alive by Shannon K. Butcher. Or heart wave. Does that make sense?

No, you can mix and match. Whatever you can use to spell out the words from that list is acceptable.
