I was actually surprised by how much I enjoyed this book. It was also an easy, quick read. So while the size might be intimidating for some kids, they should be able to get through the book pretty easily. The premise is pretty simple - two kids, Francine and new kid Kansas, are up for the news anchor position in media club. To determine who will get the position, they enter into a dare contest. As a subplot, both Francine and Kansas are dealing with the aftereffects of divorce. Francine, shrouded in shame, is having to adjust to living at two places and not doing things the same way. Kansas, on the other hand, is dealing with his pain of knowing his father is never coming back. I think this is a good book for any upper elementary kid to read, but it is particularly good for kids who are dealing with the reality of divorce. Because of the male and female protagonists, this book also works well for both genders. Definitely add this award-winning book to your kid's or classroom's reading list

Thanks for recommending this book! I'll make plans to read it (though I'm not sure when, with all the other good books I've discovered!)

It's a pretty easy read, so I suspect you'll breeze through it. That's what summers are for!
