Review Group discussion

In joining this group you have agreed TO REVIEW ANY ALLOCATED BOOK within the set 12 week limit.
If you don’t agree to that tell me now so that I can find another member who will do so.
This is a ‘clean’ group ie absolutely NO explicit sex, NO violence. If you enter your book in this group and it contravenes the ‘clean’ criteria, the other members will be able to provide evidence of the contravention to the group moderator, in the form of the offending passage(s), and if the group moderator agrees there has been a contravention the members will not be penalised for not giving a review. The contravening member will still be expected to give their 4 reviews.
Allocation is entirely random and there will NOT be any rearranging of the listing to accommodate genre preference. The ONLY circumstance in which you may duck out of giving a review is if YOU provide a stand-in reviewer.

Let’s be honest here – we don’t all like the same things but we all want reviews. The only way this group can function is if we trust each other to behave honourably. And it IS perfectly possible to give a fair-minded review of a text that does not coincide with our normal choice of reading matter. If you need a few hints/tips, please see this thread:

Hi, I'm wondering what the threshold is for violence, please. Would the first Harry Potter book or The Hobbit count as "violent" books, please? I'm willing to review, and my book is a young adult book - but it may not pass the "no violence" test.

The description says graphic violence. Something suitable for younger teens, as in harry Potter/hobbit would pass the censorship. If you think it'd make a hypothetical grandma or a twelve year old go 'ewww' then you're probably going to fall foul of the 'clean' rule. I read LOTR when I was ten, and loved it.

I can't read all the books to determine their status. It is up to the other people in the group. If they are offended by your book for reasons of violence or adult scenes, they have the right not to continuue reading it.

Hi John, its one book at a time. For the sake of fairness. I don't suppose you'd be happy to find that you needed to read and review 6 or 7 books to get 4 for your own work.

If in subsequent rounds you wish to submit other books, you can always send a short synopsis of the previous books all with it so your readers knows what is going on.

If you join subsequent rounds John, you can let people who have already reviewed book one, review book two instead. Yes you'll end up with more reviews on book one, but that's generally what happens anyway.

I've been contacted by two authors. And no problems here.. I won't accept too many for me to be able to read well and review. I'm easy. I'm an honest reviewer though!

I think it's prob a good idea for authors who got left out, somehow, on their promised reviews, to use me as a resource. If I get "popular", I may have to queue people up... But again, I won't take on more than necessary.

I read a lot.. Over 185 last year. Length of book matters, print is better for me than e-books (it's an eye thing), and subject matter can slow me down (or speed me up, of course!)

PS. Though I'm in a few groups, I'm not doing any read alongs this year. I'm "independent", trying to empty my two To Read bookshelves down a bit!

PPS. Oh, and I'm hard to scare off. Lol I'm a book freak. Have been reading since age 1 1/2. I'm the oldest; my mom's not sure how I learned to read, but I read everything in the house. She knows this because I'd bring her a book with a word I didn't know asking what it meant. At first they thought I was pretending to read. ;)

Please remember the commitment you are making to your fellow group members. If you don’t think you can manage to do 4 book reviews between these dates please let me know now. I will find someone else for this group and you will be able to choose a later group that will be more suitable for you. If you pull out after the start date for any reason it is the other members who will be faced with the problem of finding a replacement, or missing out on reviews, through no fault of their own. Please don’t ask the moderators to chase after replacements as we just don’t have the time.

You must be using more than one name for your reviews because there is nothing on goodreads. It took a lot of work to arrange this group, and I have other things to do. The order stands.

Sorry Emma, but technically, she should have told you that while enlisting since she is the last one to get on board. And a lot of writers here review under different names (or have separate blogger IDs), I don't think that's a bad thing! Maybe I should be taken off this review group altogether because I don't want to end up one review short again like last time and I don't do reciprocal reviews. Sorry.
