I can't remember the name of this book. There was a character that came out of the book and talked to the reader. The cover had a girl on it coming out of the book looking at the reader. It was a middle grade or children's book, and not Storybound which came up a few times. I read it back around 2002-ish. Thanks in advance.

? Was the storybook character a princess, a fairy, a monster, etc?
Part of a a series?
Remember any other characters, like villains, sidekicks, family?
I remember the character on the front was a girl with a sly/mischievous expression on her face wearing a dress.
