What are your thoughts on abridged audio books? Do you listen to them?

My first experience with an abridged audio book (that I can remember) is with the first Gossip Girl novel.

The audio book came free with one of the TV seasons, so I started listening to it on my iPod, narrated by Christina Ricci.

I came across a physical copy of the book in Borders and something prompted me to pick it up and have a look inside. Immediately I noticed parts of the novel that had not been in the audio book.

It reminded me of when I first saw the anime Cardcaptor Sakura in Japanese, and it was all too apparent all the things they had changed and cut from the English dub. It made me feel like I was being robbed of the actual story.

Needless to say that I did not continue listening to the Gossip Girl audio book. Which was a shame, because I was drawn in by Ricci's narration.
