Is there certain music you like to write to? Post it here so others can also try to get into that writing mood.

Definitely stuff without words. Words distract me. I really like The Piano Guys, and especially their Simple Gifts/Over the Rainbow. They also do just plain cool stuff to listen to.

so this is probably a stupid question but does that mean they sing in danish?
Ooh, that sounds really interesting. I think I shall check it out once I get sick of The Ready Set. (I haven't been listening to anything else all day, eh heh.)

They actually sing in English.
I just have a playlist on my iTunes called Writing Music which has some slower stuff as well as a few more upbeat songs..
Playlist so far for a short story I'm writing:Michael Buble - Quando, Quando, Quando
Frank Sinatra - The World We Knew
John Williams - Where Dreams Are Made
Claude Debussy - Clair de Lune (yes this always makes my playlists shhhhhhhhhh I like writing to it and it goes well with the tone just be glad it isn't this one this time)
I think I have set clear what the mood is going to be.
Sort of? I listened to Clair de Lune while writing it, but now I'm expanding it because I'm interested in exploring what happened to them and boom that playlist was born.
I've had Fire Escape by Foster the People on repeat while writing Floating lately. It's lovely and not overly distracting to listen to
I like the Piano Guys and Jenny Oaks Baker, but I have this weird knack of tuning the words out and listening to the background music, so also Imagine Dragons, Taylor Swift, and Rascal Flatts, mostly.
I absolutely love writing to my writing playlist, which consists of mainly Explosions in the Sky, Caspian, and Maybeshewill, which are all instrumental bands (no vocalist, more orchestral) which helps me tune out everything around me yet focus on my writing and not be distracted by lyrics. Also, I love the beginning of the album (e)vening by Mae because it's basically a giant piano song that is soooo beautiful. I also like writing to movie soundtracks/scores! Sometimes I just let the song "The Winner Is" from Little Miss Sunshine play on repeat, haha.I also sometimes listen to bands with lyrics depending on what I'm writing, but there'd be too many to list. Honestly if you check out any of the bands mentioned above, it should be Explosions in the Sky (although they're pretty popular so you've probably already heard of them oops).
YESSSsss Explosions in the Sky and Caspian are both wonderful. I love the wordless Mae songs, too––and that song from Little Miss Sunshine also (which also happens to be one of my favorite movies ever). So yeah, you have good taste. :D Lately I've been into writing while listening to Sigur Rós; their music isn't wordless but it's in Icelandic sooo the lyrics don't distract me, haha.
Anyway, some more instrumental bands/artists I recommend:
E.S. Posthumus, This Will Destroy You, Philip Wesley, Ryan Farish, Audiomachine, Iván Torrent, City of the Fallen, Jo Blankenburg, Erik Ekholm, Hammock, Soundcritters, Qualia, Tycho, The Flashbulb, Kodomo, Welder ... I have a playlist on Spotify which I should link to at some point.
