Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein

This is one of the most amazing books I have ever read. It's definitely unprecedented. Unique storyline. Unique writing style. Very emotionally gripping. Wonderful characters. Friendship, not romance, centered. Everything about it was ajksdlf;jasdf.

You do. I was not expecting it to be so world-shattering, but it was. It's a little boring in parts, because there's a lot of technical descriptions about airplanes and whatnot, but it's worth slogging, through. And you can tell how much thought she put into everything, because everything connects and links up so perfectly. And all of the historical details are amazing. And the characters and their relationships were so real. And I laughed and cried and felt all the things.

Sorry. Rambling. I really like this book.

Hmm, I couldn't decide whether or not to read that ... but maybe I shall.

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

I'd like to suggest After Hello by Lisa Mangum by Lisa Mangum. It didn't seem like my type of book at first, but it has romance that doesn't overpower the rest of the story, lovely descriptions, fleshed-out characters, and it has just grown on me a lot.

The summary might just sound like your everyday realistic fiction romance novel, but it's not.

Yay! It looked like it could be a fun movie or it would end up being really lame and trying to hard and fall flat. I'm glad it was good. And yes. Nicholas Hoult is fantastic.

I was thinking about buying it on the Kindle Store. Like, how many stars would you rate it?

Haha I'm just making sure I want it, that's all.

message 30: by Elliott (new)

Elliott | 22634 comments Mod
I rated it 4, because some parts were slow. But I feel like now that I've let the book settle in my mind, it might be a 5 because I miss it so much. The writing was beautiful and the characters were amazing and realistic and fun to read about and I loved all of the descriptions of travel and yeah it was really great. I think you'd like it, since you loved Anna and the French Kiss. It's similar (Paris and attractive boy) but definitely different enough that it won't feel like a copy. It's also less a bit romance-y and more self-discovery.

Well I really love travel books. Like 13 Little Blue Envelopes is one of my favorite books because I romanticize the traveling so much.

Alright, I think I'll go for it

message 33: by Elliott (new)

Yeah, I love travel books too! Mainly because I love traveling and I'm still too young to do much if it. And this one showed a really interesting side to travel that a lot of travel books don't. And also Willem, the main guy is a great complex character so it's not one of those books where the main guy is simply a hot guy with no real depth other than a lead for the girl. It makes me really happy when I find books with somewhat cliche plots that aren't cliche at all.

message 34: by [deleted user] (new)

(Allow me to randomly enter the conversation. XD)

Whoa, the main guy's name is Willem? I have a friend named Willem but I've never heard the name anywhere else.

So like, fantasy/mythology stuff? Because in that case, I'd have some recommendations:

The Raven Boys
A Great and Terrible Beauty
The Diviners
The Monstrumologist
The Secret Hour
Angelfall
Daughter of the Forest
Cinder
Dragonfly
Mistwood
Poison Study
Wildwood Dancing

Hopefully that helps?

I read What I Saw and How I Lied ... (And hey, why shouldn't guys read it too? :P) I liked the setting/atmosphere of the book but I remember having some mixed feelings about it. I think it was just that I had some trouble sympathizing with the main character.

And yes, I can't wait for the second Diviners book either! :)
