Chapter 1 was a bit jarring - like you said, we didn't really know what was going on but the torture sounded pretty awful

Chapter 2 gave us more details but it doesn't seem like, in the midst of her bruises and torture, that she'd readily trust someone because they found her - but it I guess it's good she's found someone to help her.

I'll read more tonight too! :)

Joss - I'm amazed in her beaten and battered state, that she'd fall for the first guy she sees and be all worried about her state of dress. I would think she'd still be worried for her life instead of being snide and sarcastic to him
I do love the idea of Joss making special horse cookies. lol

Vienna - I think the more she's jealous the more childish she seems. I can't believe she even cares when she could/would have been dead if they hadn't found her. It seems like she should want to get home or get somewhere. instead she's jealous and acting kind of childish when they are completely paying her way and everyone else is just giving things to her for free

it's been so long since they said her name, I don't remember the main characters name anymore. Yikes lol

It begins with a T, Thalia maybe? Not sure at all. If I see it I elt you know :) I am currently on chapter 3.

Thalia - I don't like her at all
I think she's kind of self centered and rude. These people are trying to bend over backwards to help her and try to save her
and she's being sarcastic and rude
and now she's yelling at the council?

memories - she must have been royalty or something before she was kidnapped. she doesn't seem nice enough to have been someone who had to serve/help others

I was right it's Thalia, I am pretty sure another book I read recently has a character with the same name.

Chapter 3 (view spoiler)[ I agree with you, why is she acting like she even knows him. I think love/lust would be the last thing on her mind. If you had been tortured for months I think you would trust anyone new. Also wasn't there a woman with Joss and Darren, she just seemed to disappear. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 4 (view spoiler)[ I am feeling it a little jumpy, like they suddenly arrive somewhere but we were not told how or when. I am guessing she is a denie and will end up with Joss. It isn't as good as I first thought but I am enjoying it. (hide spoiler)]

Finished (view spoiler)[ I honestly thought this book was ok. It did not appeal to me the way I thought it would. The ending was a wtf moment honestly, I don't know where that came from. It was so abrupt and so badly paced. I mean I don't know what to say honestly (hide spoiler)]

End of Chapter 5 (view spoiler)[ Has any one else read Poison study, the set up of citadel seems very similar to the castle in poison in study, even down to the friendly seamstress. Not much has happened since the end of chapter 4, so not much else to say. (hide spoiler)]

End of chapter 6 (view spoiler)[ it does annoy me slightly how much Thalia likes Joss, with little to know interaction for a month. (hide spoiler)]

End of chapter 7 (view spoiler)[ I wonder if there was a reason why the dogs attacked. I was wondering earlier if Thalia would turn out to be Denai, but not so sure now. (hide spoiler)]

YES! I thought the Same. Exact. Thing! This citadel does feel exactly like in Poison Study - even with the great seamstress!!

I completely agree. I'm not really feel this love story angle at all. I mean, Joss seemed nice and all but....SHE isn't very nice to him so I don't know why he'd be all worried about her.... *sigh*

The dog attack was weird right? I mean, it felt really out of no where.
I wonder why Kael was there? watching over her?

and I was sad that her first response to the dance and masquerade was to call it stupid.
I know it hurt her friend's feelings and she's new to this town - who is she to knock their customs

of course, I fully expect Joss to get her other coin so they can dance/kiss at midnight :)

I'm so surprised they just dropped her into the school. How could they NOT even warn the teachers?? You would think they would warn them to protect her and teach her basics but ALSO to watch her! make sure she doesn't use her power when she isn't supposed to!! How odd that one person wanted her dead and the rest just threw her to the wolves of their school
I would have thought she'd at least have a crash course on their culture and history before being dropped in....

I liked the new instructor too!

OMG those attacks are awful. I can't believe she's now managed to live through at least two!!

Do you think Breah is behind any of this?? she was REALLY intent on killing her....anyway, maybe not, it was just a thought lol

I love the horse. he sounds lovely - faraway
I love that she talked to him about her day and threatened to not clean him if he wouldn't behave lol!
AND I love that she had the cook make the special cookies!

OMG I really thought Pax was a bad guy for a moment there! so glad he's not

but I agree with Thalia - how on earth are they going to get red paint out of their clothes!?! They have to be hand washed?! UGH! lol

I like that they are going to teach her to defend herself. that's absolutely better than throwing guards around her - but she'll need more people around her until she can protect herself.

I love that she's talking with Faraway. how awesome would that be? I love that he wanted cookies! and nuts! LOL

I liked this last interaction with joss too. Thalia is finally coming into her own and isn't all googly eyes over him. I like that she stood up to him and that HE'S proposing friendship....
