Christi (trumpetchick) | 309 comments Hey, guys. What do you think if I started a thread to talk about dating and such? I can help clear up some common questions (like "is kissing a bad thing?" or "when is a good age to date?") or misconceptions about it or people can send me anonymous messages asking me questions and such.

Sorry, Christi, I didn't see this before. I think it is a GREAT idea. And I am more than happy to throw my 2¢ worth of advice in too, having "been there, done that."

message 6: by Rebekah (new)

Rebekah Is there a book/currently reading thread? It might be fun to discuss some of our favorite (or not so favorite) books :)

message 7: by Christi (new)

Christi (trumpetchick) | 309 comments Nope, not yet! What books do you have in mind??

message 8: by Rebekah (new)

Rebekah Hmm, well my favorites are Lord of the Rings, but maybe books we're reading for school, or just a general discussion if having forums on individual books would be too many

message 9: by Christi (new)

Christi (trumpetchick) | 309 comments Hey, do you want to create the topic? I keep forgetting. :3

message 10: by Rebekah (new)

Rebekah Sure! I'll do that right now before I forget :)

message 11: by Myra (new)

Myra Hi guys, I don't know if it's the right thread to ask, but I was wondering: Do you have a specific plan in how you read your bible? And do you have a time and place you always read it?
I've heard that it's not a very good idea for a beginner to read the whole bible through, from beginning to end. How do you feel about that? Any tips for a beginning bible reader like me?

My tip would be to get a "student" bible. I have been using my student Bible since I got it as a kid. There are a lot of places where it stops and explains what's going on or explains why it's significant. As far as what order to read it in, I don't think it's a problem to read straight through if you think you will commit to it. People might not recommend it because there are some books toward the beginning (Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy) that are really boring, because it goes over and over the rules the early Jews had to follow. I would say just to skip over those books and come back to them another time. It wasn't until this year (and I'm 39) that I got really excited about parts of Leviticus.

Myra Hi TC, I think I'm gonna buy a student bible, I could really use some explaining while reading.. :) Thanks a lot for your tips!!

:) Happy to help.

another tip could be to get a book that has daily questions...for example my Sunday school does something weekly where everyday you have to read a part of your Bible and then answer questions on it. it reals helps me learn more about Gods will and what he wants for my life!

I'm just sorry I don't post more often. But I am always here to answer questions. I used to be a youth group leader (with my husband). But then I was moved to children's director (since I was an elementary school teacher). I never would have figured I would miss teens so much. But I really do like to guide girls your age. You are at the age when you really care about your relationship with God and how to please Him, and I want to be available to help with that!

Gotta give credit where it's due - Christi started this group, I just joined in and am trying really hard not to overstep my place! She's an excellent older teen role model too. And props to your SS teacher!
