I actually read this one! It was entertaining, but I admit, I was a little disturbed by the adult content. Once you read this, you can never go back to looking at Harry Potter or Narnia the same way again, that is for sure...
Another group I'm in will most likely read this as a group read in July, so it would fit nicely, I haven't yet chosen a book for this task.
I'm reading this for the week with nonhuman characters. One of my friends really liked it and I like that it will be a TV series that I can compare to. I was sort of neutral about it but you guys have me intrigued!
I really liked this book. I've only read the first two in the trilogy so far, and I do find that the author needs a good editor in the middle, which drags a bit, but overall I find the books to be really entertaining. And I agree that the summary that Goodreads gives doesn't do the book justice. I agree with Heather - it's Narnia for adults. :)
I just finished it and I ended up liking it much more than I was in the beginning. (view spoiler)
I'm intrigued enough to continue the series and will probably switch out the magic week for the second book.

It's easy to see why my friends didn't finish or disliked the book. I'm very uncomfortable with the way the characters are depicted (like looking all the women in the breasts and explaining who a boy is under "the fat one"). If it wasn't for the challenge, I'd stopped the book, as the writing is average and the story not interesting on the first 25%.

- they'll release a tv show for it in 2016 and I liked the trailer
- it's about magic and magic is interesting
- it has something like half bad ratings (1-3 stars) and half good ones (4-5 stars)
- the 5 most liked reviews on Goodreads rated it 1 or 2 stars
- one of my friends gave it a 1 star rating, another couldn't finish the book
So overall, I think it fits well for this week :)
Summary:
Like everyone else, precocious high school senior Quentin Coldwater assumes that magic isn't real, until he finds himself admitted to a very secretive and exclusive college of magic in upstate New York. There he indulges in joys of college-friendship, love, sex, and booze- and receives a rigorous education in modern sorcery. But magic doesn't bring the happiness and adventure Quentin thought it would. After graduation, he and his friends stumble upon a secret that sets them on a remarkable journey that may just fulfill Quentin's yearning. But their journey turns out to be darker and more dangerous than they'd imagined.
Gosh, I didn't read the summary before choosing the book and... now I want to run away. I don't know about the book, but the summary is bad :D
