Leslie | 16369 comments In an attempt to make the threads about plays, whether read or seen, more easily accessible, we have created a separate Drama section. Discussion of plays, playwrights, and other aspects of drama should now go here.

Please feel free to add readalongs of plays here rather than the general readalong thread if you wish.

Leslie | 16369 comments Here is the 2016 lineup -- each 3 month period will have a broad theme with one specific play as a focus.

Winter (Jan-March) -- theme: Irish plays; focus: Dancing at Lughnasa by Brian Friel

Spring (April-June) -- theme: modern retelling of classics; focus: Eurydice by Sarah Ruhl

Summer (July-Sep) -- theme: Nobel-winning playwrights; focus: The Lion and the Jewel by Wole Soyinka

Fall (Oct-Dec) -- theme: French plays; focus: Art by Yasmina Reza

Leslie | 16369 comments Well, here is as far as I have gotten with next year's lineup:
In 2017 we will follow the same format we used in 2016 -- each 3 month period will have a broad theme with one specific play as a focus.

Winter (Jan-March) -- theme: Nordic plays; focus: Creditors by Swedish author August Strindberg

Spring (April-June) -- theme: Elizabethan plays (including but not limited to Shakespeare); focus: Doctor Faustus by Christopher Marlowe

Summer & Fall themes & focus plays yet to be decided.

Nancy, links to your own reviews are fine as long as the reviews are on Goodreads. (I've looked at where you've linked to your review and it's not working for me, by the way.)

Pink Thanks Leslie, I'll look forward to discovering some Nordic drama next year!

Didn't you read some Ibsen with me a few years ago -- A Doll's House maybe?

message 9: by Pink (new)

Pink Nope not me, I only read A Doll's House a couple of months ago. I had mixed feelings about it.

Leslie | 16369 comments After 4 years, I have run out of steam for doing the group drama lately and was wondering if anyone else would be willing to organize this for 2018. I am hoping that by the time 2019 rolls around, I will have recaptured my energy and enthusiasm for this so it doesn't need to be a permanent commitment, though it could be if desired.

message 12: by Pink (new)

Pink Sorry you've run out of steam with it Leslie. I feel similar in my desire to read plays right now and I'm pretty clueless about them in general, otherwise I'd offer myself. I hope someone else is interested in organising for 2018, as I always appreciate our branch into drama, but if not maybe we can just take a break for a while.

message 13: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 16369 comments Thanks Pink -- maybe a break would be a good idea.
