This book almost lost me at the beginning but then when it got into the journey down river, I was hooked. I loved the feel of this book and all the crazy characters.

I agree. If you haven't yet, check out "Three Men in a Boat (To Say Nothing of the Dog)" by Jerome K. Jerome, that inspired Connie Willis' book. Dry British humor about three men taking a boating holiday up the river Thames along with a dog named Montmorency. Librivox has a free audiobook recording of it if that interests you more than getting a paper copy.

I will have to look for this. I am a fan of dry British humor.

Vlad, I feel that way about Orson Scott Card. Don't clue me in on Willis' faults as a human being, let me finish enjoying her other works first. (Of course, now that you've said that, now I'll check them out from the library rather than considering purchasing them outright).
