Maple (maplerie) | 307 comments I have decided to read The Divergent series for my trilogy.

I plan to start Allegiant (Divergent, #3) by Veronica Roth later this week, but am looking forward to it. At this point I have read Divergent, and am starting Insurgent today. I was a bit disappointed in the way the first book progressed, but am hopeful this picks up in the second book and has a strong ending with this one.

Maple (maplerie) | 307 comments I'm starting this one today. Today I don't know if I'm feeling nervous or dreadful about this one. I almost don't want to continue with it, but I feel a sense of duty to push forward just to know how it ends, and that's how they get you. But, like a band-aid, I just have to do it.

Silvia Turcios | 304 comments I read it just because I wanted to finish the series and besides, this series was perfect for the categories "a one word title" or "an author under 30" :D ... Anyway I like Four and this book had a couple of good Four moments :)

Maple (maplerie) | 307 comments I'm done with this series. Both figuratively and literally. I've completed reading it, and I am speechless.

*Prepare for a rant*
I apologize to anyone who loves this series. I just do not understand. I struggled to find many positive things with this. The premise of this story is so loosely put together that it falls in on itself. From book one, it if full of plot holes, and is filled with misused words and scientific theory. If a writer is going to use genetics as a premise for their books, they may want to do some research about and make sure they know what they're talking about. The most scientific accurate thing about this, was in book 2 (?) when the characters talk about "entropy" and how watered down and basic the explanation was. The watered down and basic statement was spot on. It's frustrating to read.

Don't even get me started on the constantly changing personalities of Tris and Four. They were poorly developed to begin with, and then it seemed like they were different people in each book. This could make sense if there was a good amount of time for the characters between the books, but the stories run fairly consecutively, with no more than a few weeks between books. The relationship between the two was just as bad. It was inadequately developed and we are just supposed to believe that this is the most magical thing to have ever happened on the face of the earth. It felt like half of the book was just them making out - I know I've said this before ... Nothing changed. Tris never trusted Four or their relationship, and constantly went behind his back, expecting that he'd love her enough to over look her behaviors. Four was just as bad with the secret keeping and brooding silence.

The ending. What the ... Seriously, what happened? I give Roth so many props for having the courage to end the series the way she did; not many authors would go down that route. Even though I had a lack of attachment to these books and characters. Tris, Four, Caleb, Peter, Christina, and the true fans of the Divergent series deserved better than what was delivered.

This series was terrible. If any of you know me, you know how much I despise the Twilight series, but I would rather have to reread those books every 6 months than have to ever lay eyes on this series again.

I'm going to go drink some tea and calm down.

It was fun to read your rant :D

For the scientific part, I agree, some research could have help to write something more accurate on genetics. It was my main problem with the 3rd book because I couldn't understand their point of view (which is a bit of nonsense when you know genetics).

For the characters, I'd no problem with Tris during the series, she grew as a character and adult. She overreacted a lot in the 2nd book, but she had problems to talk about what she felt and the events were really difficult, so I can understand that.
Four in another hand... I think there were 3 boys named Four in this book. I liked how he was mysterious, strong and gentle in the 1st, was not really interested by him in the 2nd and he behaved like child in the 3rd... It was disappointing a lot for a main character.
As the supportive cast was shallow all the series, I didn't care about them.

I didn't like the ending but I found it was well done and brave to take this path. Maybe it's the only original thing in the series :D

Biana Oh Manda! You called it, sister! I actually enjoyed the first book, felt like the second was week but kept going because trilogies often end solid. But I felt like each book was about characters named the same thing...not the same characters. And I thought it was cheesy and cheap. My understanding is that Ms. Roth is a young author. I hope she can get better.

Although...with the success of the movies....I doubt it. Have some tea for me too.

Teressa | 12 comments "Lack of attachment to characters"- I felt the same way. I'd kept hearing about a devastating:heartbreaking end to the series that after I finished, I was sure I was missing something, some twist in a sentence, something! But I didn't. I just didn't have an attachment to the characters so I couldn't be emotionally invested in the ending. I thought the series started out strong and got weaker with each sequel. Interesting concept overall though.

Krysta (booksaremyfavthing) | 115 comments I just got this book this week. There was a longer wait for it at the library than the other two. But I agree, this book didn't seem to fit with the other two. Very strange.
