How do you think Phillippe was able to reconcile murder with his philanthropy and child "placement" sideline? How was he able to be so successful while being so obviously self absorbed?

Charlene (charlenethestickler) | 1392 comments I'm not sure I have an explanation for the extremes of Philippe's personality. I thought most of the way through the book that he rationalized murder by compartmentalization and narcissism.

But when he was present for the torture of Mia and Jared, he was more "hands on" -- I expect this was because of his great sense of betrayal and the fact that his wishes were not going to be granted. Also, the threat to his little side business figured in....

He was an über narcissist!!! Everything revolved around him and he had a God (or should that be lower case) complex. Didn't you wonder why others didn't see through him? I guess money changes things.

It was money that shielded him from others - as they assume he is just an eccentric.
