I realised a little while ago that I was collecting Naguib Mahfouz . I didn't realise I was collecting at first. I just thought I wanted everything in print in English.
I didn't bother about editions. I guess I would feel more like a real collector if I wanted all hardback and all first edition.
Now I'm doing something similar with Dostoevsky .

That sounds great.I am into collecting fairy tales / classic childrens books.
I have jack the giant killer & wind in the willows so far.
Finally I have a collector to talk to! Exciting.
I loved Wind in the Willows.
It was the school play one year in primary school. I was Toad.
Beep beep!

We did the Wind in the Willows at Primary school too.. twice!
First time I was a 5-year old, carol singing fieldmouse, second time I was a weasel. I got to party on stage before being chased out of Toad Hall.
I loved the book too.
Fieldmice are cute.
Weasels are cool.
Weasels are cool.
Old Dickens books - the reason being twice a year there's a Dickens festival in Rochester which I like to go to. There also happens to be England's largest second hand book store in Rochester with a dedicated Dickens section. I have one from late 1800s and more from early 1900s but I just love the old hardback books - the pages and the way they look - all so delicate with that old book smell and feel :D
The book shop is visible from the train. Looks amazing.
Andrew wrote: "The book shop is visible from the train. Looks amazing."It is - it's also a lot bigger than you'd think from the outside ;)
I've always wanted to go to that bookshop, but it is too far away =(Haven't found a good one in Yorkshire yet.
I collect Barnes and Nobles Leatherbound editions of classics as well as Collector's Library editions. They're really very pretty. :)
I love the Collector's Library Editions! I have a few of their books. They are very very pretty indeed. My favourite is the fairy tale one.
Over the years I have had to pare my collection down. I now seriously collect (by serious-I mean signed firsts) books that relate to another book (People of the Book, The Rule of Four, any Thursday Next), reading in general (Mr. Penumbra's 24 Hour Bookstore), authors (think Author,Author; Aviators Wife; Joseph Anton) and any other variation that strikes my fancy. Now if I can just get my sons to understand that these are not to be sold in a yard sale when I'm gone...
So you collect books about books & signed copies?Interesting collection. What if your favourite book you have?
Booked to Die by John Dunning started me on this journey. my all time favorite is The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde.

I have a nice collection of Penguin black classic paperbacks, and have actually read most of them already.

I collect Modern Library Classics (the newer ones with the solid color spines), New York Review Books and some Everyman's Library books, specifically the collections of short stories and poetry. They all have colorful spines and I love how they look on my shelves. :) I also collect Stephen King and horror paperbacks.
Emily, I like everyman classics too. There are also many pretty editions of classics available now. My daughter collects those and I borrow them from her.
