Thanks, Dustin. :)I finished The Luminaries and also diverted from my list and read Ariel: The Restored Edition, The Middle Stories, and In the Woods. Not too shabby.

You're welcome!
You are off to a great start!
Oh, you've read The Luminaries! How was it? It's been standing unread on my shelf for about a year now and I feel a little bad about it. It also seems to be one of those books where no one agrees on whether it's good or bad.

I did not like it, but I have to admit that Eleanor Catton is a highly competent, creative writer. It was just so repetitive and absolutely did not need to be almost 900 pages. Her structure is really interesting, and like I said in my review, if you're into astrology, you'd probably get a big kick out of it. If not (I am not), probably not.
Oh no! Haha, I'm so glad I bought it now. No, I'll give it a go someday, maybe I'm lucky and I'll like it. Thanks for being honest! Hope you fare better with the other books you're reading/have read.
Thank you for your feedback, Holly, much appreciated. I am sorry that it didn't do a whole lot for you, though....:( I'm curious about The Luminaries now..
As it turns out, Catton's tome was already on my TBR, but I'm so glad I checked out its synopsis, because this sounds promising. So many mixed reviews, too! This seems to be a book that you either love or hate. Not much middle ground. Holly- without any spoilers, in what ways is astrology incorporated into it?

I don't get astrology, haha. The book's structure (long first half, shorter second half, even shorter third half, etc) represents the phases of the moon.
