B A C K G R O U N DI N F O R M A T I O N ;
Counterfeit is an advanced roleplay which centers around an institute that trains young men and women between the ages of seventeen and twenty-three in the art of deception, teaching them the various skillsets they need to become successful conartists.
Voclain institute is funded by private organisations, many of which are somehow connected to illegal groups such as the Mafia or infamous black market dealers. While the U.S. Government is aware that a school for cons exists in their midst, they have yet to discover any specifics about the school. As far as the government and the locals are concerned, Voclain is just another uptight boarding school.
The institute is informed of possible recruits through a network of third-party associations who are told to look for those with quick-wits, light-fingers, and an ambiguous moral compass. Once the institute decides to recruit someone, they send an administrator to send an anonymous letter asking for a meeting. If the recruit decides not to take it, they simply store their files in a database and move on. If, however, the recruit accepts, the administrator arrives with a designer suit, veiled eyes and a piece of paper filled with esoteric code. Each time, they say the same thing: Solve the code. Follow the instructions. Burn the paper. It's the final test. Those who solve it will find the instructions lead to a location the recruit is very familiar with. The old apartment of a childhood friend. The cafe where their mother used to work. At that location is a plane ticket with an address. Everyone goes to the address, due to what some call curiosity and others call desperation. Usually, it's a mixture of both.
At the address there is a private plane awaiting the recruit. And after the plane ride is Voclain, where the recruits find the unexpected answer to their problems. Everyone who enters Voclain is required to stay until they meet the institute's expectations. New recruits are between the ages of seventeen and nineteen upon first being admitted to Voclain. They train for four years and are deemed ready to leave once they successfully complete their final examination, which also happens to be their first assignment.
There are no letter grades. Recruits either pass or fail. Those who pass are promised riches beyond measure. Those who fail are never seen again.
Welcome to The Voclain Institute. Enjoy your stay.

── Characters can be from anywhere around the world, but all must be fluent in English.
── Voclain Institute is located in the countryside of New Hampshire.
── Recruits are between the ages of 17-19 when they are recruited and 21-23 when they "graduate". Instructors must be at least 25.
── While there is no official uniform, all recruits are custom-fitted for suits (in the case of male recruits) or skirtsuits (in the case of females) in a variety of designer brands and are expected to portray a wealthy, business-like image during training hours.
── Recruits are housed in dorms during their stay.
── Recruits are allowed to take a maximum two-week holiday once a year, but must personally set up an elaborate and all-inclusive cover story and provide the institute with every detail of their whereabouts during their vacation.
