I'm going to try and explain this the best I can.
I usually take the curve from the bridge of the nose up and continue that line. That would be where the eyebrow is. Underneath there I draw a small oval shape with a soft point on the tip, that fits with the curve of the nose. You may have to do some maneuvering to get it in the right position. Do the other eye shape as best you can. Remember the human face is not proportional. Inside the oval draw another curved line that matches the upper line of the eye. That wil then become your eye lid. You can move it up and down as you like to create different effects. Then draw a circle that ranges up and down the eye. Draw another circle. Those will be your pupil and iris. Then just erase a small sliver of the iris in the pupil to make the light reflect on it. They will look more alive then.
I'm really hoping this helps since I can't show you anything but if you need a different explanation don't be afraid to ask.

Also if you can do the squiggles game everyday, get aa friend or family member to draw a few shapes on a piece of paper, then turn it into a simple drawing
I got these ideas from brendon mckenna when i met him in sydney, he is aawesome graphic novelist.

If you're using markers or sketch pens (I can't recommend the Monami Aqua Plus sketch pens enough, they're AMAZING) for color, if you go over the area lightly with a pencil first, it looks...
I dunno how to describe it, textured?
Not darker, but, like, thicker?
It's weird, but try it.
