Radio Plays and Full Cast Recordings

I just finished listening to the BBC Classic Radio Theatre production of 'The Importance of Being Earnest' by Oscar Wilde.
What I didn't realise was that it is the original four act version of the play, so it included a lot of material I wasn't familiar with, which was very interesting.
However, I found that the actors' delivery of the lines were too quick and the comedic timing fell short. I'll be keen to listen to a production of the three act version to see how I like it.

I'd really like to try to listen to more radio plays, but I'm also interested in how a full cast recording of a novel differs from one read by a single narrator. Does one person read the descriptors, while the others voice specific characters? Are dialogue tags removed?
Let me know what your experiences and impressions of radio plays and full cast recordings are, and if you have any recommendations.
