... First, you sacrifice a unicorn. Second, you use the souls of innocent maidens to fuel your writing fire. Third, you use vague analogies like astronomical measurements to talk about life. Just follow that checklist and you should be golden, Sam.

solely so that my end may be met young, and in conflict.
My yearning is to meet my death at swords end, in a fist-fight,
on the bucking horse, in the inferno. Void gentleness,
or the soft woes of sleep.
Words do so little to put paint to a face. He would like to go out in a burning fuselage,
kissing the atmosphere, scattered out on all the continents, ash and bone-dust.
It was he who told me the nature of astronomical systems--
an astronomical unit is the distance from the earth to the sun
a light year is the span it takes light to travel in a single year
then there are parsecs, kiloparsecs, megaparsecs.
a single parsec is 3.2616 light-years.
at what intervals does one breathe?
it is nothing to measure the distance of continents, the space
between heartbeats and yet is there anything more vast
than words unspoken? we are all apart.
