The Rules:
The idea behind workshopping is that everyone who wants feedback will get it. But it also means that you should be prepared to reciprocate––that is, if you want feedback then you should give others feedback.
No one is required to participate in workshopping, but it is a good way to ensure that you get feedback.
Submitting:
- If you would like your piece to be workshopped, please fill out a form in the "Submissions" thread.
- Pieces can be fiction or poetry of any genre or length.
- You may only submit one workshop piece at a time. Once your piece has been workshopped, you may submit another one––but try not to submit too often. We want to make sure that everyone gets a chance.
- You can submit the same piece more than once (for example, if you have added more to it, you have written a new draft, and/or you would like more feedback)––but once again, try not to overdo it. Also, pieces that have not been workshopped at all will have priority over pieces that have already gotten some feedback.
Critiquing:
- Each week there will be three pieces to workshop. You don't have to read all of them, but you can if you want to. Each piece must get feedback from at least one person to be considered "workshopped." If a story gets no feedback, it will be one of the three workshop options again the next week. In other words––if you want to ensure that your own story will be workshopped, it will help if you give feedback to others. (That way, it's sort of like a swap system but with more of a consequence.)
- You must post your feedback (or a link to your feedback) in the "Current Workshops" thread so that I know each writer has gotten at least one critique.
- You can give feedback in any means you want to, but try to be constructive and give at least a paragraph (~5 sentences / bullet points) of comments. I will provide feedback forms that everyone will be free to use (but these will just be a guide, and you can give feedback in any way you like).
- For novels, you are not obligated to read the whole thing to give feedback. If you want to give feedback on more then you are certainly welcome to do so, but you are only required to give feedback on the first chapter if that is all you have time for.
You are not required to submit pieces if you want to provide critiques, and vice versa––however, once again, it is strongly suggested that you give feedback if you want feedback in return.
Be helpful and have fun!
