мαr ♚ | 264 comments At the Choosing Ceremony, Jaelyn sat next to her sister. One look at the two of them and no person would guess that they were sisters, for they looked so different. Jaelyn had beautiful chocolate brown hair and caramel eyes whereas her sister Kiaya had blonde hair and blue eyes. She knew that she would be the first one from her family to be called up to choose her future, and this made Jaelyn the slightest bit nervous as names were being called and boys and girls the same age as her stepped forward and chose their new life.

"Jaelyn Emerson," it took Jaelyn by surprise when her name was called, thinking for a moment that they had made a mistake. But she soon realized that it was her turn, squeezing her sisters hand before rising from her seat in the Abnegation section of the room Jaelyn began her descent down the stairs and into the middle of the room where Jeanine Matthews stood, waiting for her with a knife in her hand. She thanked the Erudite woman when she was handed the knife and gently pulled the blade across the palm of her hand, for a moment she held her hands over the Abnegation bowl, but before any blood could drip from the cut on her hand she moved it to where she held her hand above the Dauntless bowl and heard the droplet of blood sizzle when it landed in the coals. The Dauntless side of the room erupted with celebration as she made her way over to them, her new family, as she passed to sit down many people patted her on the back, congratulated her.

After the ceremony, Jaelyn smiled as the Dauntless were the first to rise from their seats and run through the double doors of the room where the Choosing Ceremony took place. She felt strangely out of place in her Abnegation gray clothing surrounded by black and dark red as she ran with her new faction out onto the grass towards the train tracks with adrenaline pulsing through her veins, she knew what was coming for she had watched the Dauntless arrive on the train, and they had to get back on the train to go to where they had originally came from, which Jaelyn did not know just yet, but she would find out soon enough.

мαr ♚ | 264 comments After a moment, Jaelyn fell in with the group and watched as people began running beside the train and grabbing onto a handle beside the door and jumping on. She smiled to herself, as it came to be her turn and she picked up her pace, grabbing the handle and pulling herself up, leaning out of the train for a moment to look up ahead. Some of the other initiates were saying how it was getting close to time to jump off when the train took to the rooftops, and Jaelyn realized that they wouldn't be jumping onto the ground but onto one of these building roofs. If you missed, you would fall to your death, she stepped forward to look out the door, the initiates began saying that the building was next. It took her a moment to time her jump, but when she did she jumped with another group, landing on her hands and knees on the gravelly rooftop, feeling rocks dig into the palms of her hands. When she stood up and brushed off her gray skirt she looked up to find a man with many piercings and tattoos standing close to the edge of the building, she immediately decided that she did not like this man at all. He had a strange vibe that came off of him that suggested he was dangerous and could not be trusted, at least that's what Jaelyn got from him.

~-~

Eric watched from the rooftop of one of the mag buildings as the new initiates poked their heads out from the train, he could've sworn he had seen a few of their eyes widen to the size of dinner plates from here. His eyes followed the train, as he watched the initiates begin timing their jumps. The first one to jump--much to his surprise--was a Stiff. She had timed the jump perfectly and rolled when she hit the rooftop, before she stood and brushed herself off. He watched her for a moment, his head tilted slightly to the side, not understanding exactly what had possessed this Stiff to choose Dauntless as her new faction. But that wasn't his concern, either she got tough or she got to be part of the factionless. As he began speaking he noticed the way the Stiff held her head high with confidence and feistiness that he had not seen in a Stiff before, he had to admit, it was kind of hot. "This will be your first test as a member of the Dauntless faction," he said as he pointed below him to the ground where a gaping hole could be seen. A few initiates asked, "What if we don't jump?" He looked back to the group, his eyes scanning the initiates carefully, mercilessly. "If you don't jump, then you don't get in," he said simply.

мαr ♚ | 264 comments Jaelyn joined the group when everyone had jumped off of the train, not standing at the very back but not at the very front either, she was right in between. She was listening to the man with the piercings and the tattoos speak, but her eyes were focused on the the edge of the building where she would jump off in order to get into Dauntless, as the man had said, if you don't jump you don't get in. Her eyes widened slightly when a girl that stood at the front of the group dressed in Abnegation gray clothing as she backed towards the edge of the building, falling backwards towards the hole in the ground. Biting her lip, Jaelyn quietly moved through around people in the group to the edge of the rooftop, looking down at the hole in the ground where the first jumper had disappeared. Inhaling, she climbed up onto the edge and spread her arms out like a bird and fell forward, rolling in the air before she landed in her back on a net at the bottom of the hole that bounced from the impact of her landing. A quiet giggle escaped Jaelyn's lips as she rolled over and pulled herself towards the edge, taking one of the many arms that were there, reaching out to her, the arm flexed under her grip and she was pulled off the net and landed on her feet, her hair--which had been pulled back into a loose braid--had come undone during the fall, and now her chocolate brown hair hung in wind-blown locks around her face.

~-~

Eric raised his chin a fraction of an inch, raising a heavily-pierced eyebrow at the Stiff who stepped forward to be the first jumper and pulled herself up onto the ledge backwards. Was she really going to free fall backwards to get into the Dauntless faction? He hid his surprise well at how she planned on entering her new faction, his eyes narrowing slightly when she saluted him before letting herself fall backwards. Leaning over the ledge, he watched as she fell, hearing her loud laughter from the rooftop and the loud "Whoop" that had come out of her mouth as she began falling. She would be an interesting one to train, though he didn't like the way that she had saluted him and how she treated him, as if he weren't her superior, but somehow, he did like it. It proved that she was not afraid of him--that she wasn't afraid of anything he could do to her. That girl was going to make one helluva soldier.

мαr ♚ | 264 comments After Jaelyn had jumped, she got asked her name by the woman who had pulled her off the net when she had landed. It took her a moment to answer, thinking that this was a new way of life, so she could have a new name. "My name is Jae," she had answered, and the woman had smiled and nodded, welcoming her to Dauntless. The other initiates soon began making the jump from the rooftop into the hole which Jae had heard some of the people around the net calling the Pit, the name suited the place. Once all of the other initiates had jumped, they split into two groups, the transfers and the originals--Dauntless born. She shifted her weight as her and the other transfers formed a cluster in front of what she guessed to be their new trainer, he was an average height man, but still taller than Jae, but his arms and chest and torso were covered with a thick layer of muscle, because of the darkness here Jae could not completely see his face, and that frustrated her. But she listened intently as he spoke, trying to imagine what his face looked like from the sound of his voice, but she had the feeling she wouldn't know until she actually saw his face. She let out a quiet, frustrated sigh and crossed her arms over her chest as she continued to listen, standing behind a few people in the group, but being closer to the front than she had been on the rooftop.

~-~

After everyone initiate had jumped, Eric jumped last, jumping off the ledge of the roof and somersaulting in the air until he landed on the net in the Pit on his back, bouncing a few times before he rolled over and pulled himself to the edge, shoving away any arms that reached towards him to help him to the ground. Gripping the edge of the net he rolled off, his feet landing in the ground concrete ground, releasing the edge of the net. He split the initiates into two groups, sending the Transfers to Four who was waiting for them, and taking the Originals with him. For a moment, he paused and looked over his shoulder as the initiates began to walk away, his eyes finding the first jumper amongst the group, it wasn't hard to identify her at all. He watched her for probably a minute before she turned around rather suddenly, her eyebrow raised and lips pursed in a smirk. Shaking his head, he snorted lightly and turned away, breaking into a jog as the Originals fell in behind him.

мαr ♚ | 264 comments Jae, who had been looking down at her feet, looked back up when she heard whispering close to her ear. She turned her head to see Tirzah Eaton standing beside her after she had whispered how it was good that they knew at least one person in the group, Jae nodded at her words. Of course she knew Tirzah, but in Abnegation they had never gotten the chance to become close friends since Tirzah was always working or helping out with something, and most of the time Jae was back at home with her sister Kiaya helping her mother around the house. Her head turned back to the man that was speaking, introducing himself as Four, which Jae thought was quite a unique name, but then again, this was Dauntless where she she been offered the chance to change her name. He must've changed his name when he jumped from the rooftop, but why Four? As the group moved forward as he did, leading them to where they would be staying during the initiation period. Jae's brows furrowed for a moment, as she looked around, getting a hint that this was a coed facility. She chose a bed quickly that had a pair of black tight-fitting pants that seemed to be made by some sort of fabric that could stretch and a black tank top as well as a pair of black boots. Looking back at Four, now that she could see his face she could put a image to his voice, she looked away when he looked towards her and felt the fabric of the tank top, smiling for a moment before shrugging out of her Abnegation gray coat, wondering what would be done with their old clothing.

~-~

((I'm not really sure what to do with Eric, because he's not around Tirzah right now.))

мαr ♚ | 264 comments A few moments after Four left, Jae slowly slipped off her Abnegation gray dress, pulling on the form-fitting pants and tank top after she had completely removed all of the gray clothing she wore. She sat on the edge of the bed she had chosen and pulled on her boots, lacing them up and tying them, surprised at how well they fit her. In an attempt to better her hair Jae raked her fingers through the chocolate brown locks a few times, pulling at the tangles that she found until she had done as best she could to "fix" her hair. After she had finished she threw her old gray clothes into the fire as everyone else did as well and followed the crowd into the Dauntless Dining Hall, looking around for a moment before she found Tirzah sitting at Four's holding small talk with the trainer. Jae got her tray and glanced around again before going over to where Tirzah was sitting since she was the only person she knew here.

~-~

From across the Dining Hall where Eric sat nearby a table of loud Dauntless-born initiates who looked like they might start a food-fight at any moment he could see the Stiff who had been named first jumper. His eyes followed her as she walked confidently towards Four's table where he sat by himself, Eric was surprised when the Stiff turned and caught his eyes like she knew he had been watching her. He looked away for a moment, seemingly focused on the food on his tray before looking back up at her; surprised to see that she had sat down across from Four and he hadn't turned her away but was actually talking to her. Interesting, he thought, a thickly-pierced eyebrow raised slightly as he watched the two interact as if they had known each other their whole lives. Honestly, it made him a little jealous, but he quickly covered up his jealousy while he continued to watch the two of them, trainer and initiate, as they talked.

мαr ♚ | 264 comments Eric found himself satisfied when he saw that the Stiff seemed to be arguing with her trainer by the way her eyes were throwing imaginary daggers at Four. But his satisfaction faded when the two stopped arguing and spoke to each other normally again. He looked down at his plate for a moment, taking a bite of the Dauntless cake that was set on the tray before he looked back up just as the other Stiff who had jumped second sat down next to the first jumper. A new nickname for Four: Stiff-Magnet, Eric thought, almost laughing out loud at his own humor, but he quickly forced away the traces of a smile that had appeared on his face and watched as the First Jumper hugged the Stiff that had sat down next to her.

~-~

Jae smiled when Tirzah hugged her, leaning into the embrace slightly before she was released from the hug, "Hi," she said when the trainer Four acknowledged her, she nodded back at him. Looking down at her tray she stuck her fork into her food and plopped the bite into her mouth, chewing and swallowing and looking over at Tirzah. "Are you going to eat?" She asked her fellow initiate, head tilted to the side slightly. "It would probably be a good idea, considering the fact that this food is better than the Abnegation food by far." Jae chuckled lightly at that, turning back to her tray and finished the main part of her meal before she came upon a piece of cake that was set on the largest section of the tray, it look delicious.

((That sounds awesome! And hi :)

мαr ♚ | 264 comments Eric, who had his attention pulled away from the first jumper by one of the initiates that sat at his table, asking him some question about where his mind was at the moment and stating how the group had been trying to get his attention for the last few minutes while he had been in his reverie. He talked to the group for a moment, though his thoughts were entirely elsewhere and he was uninterested in the conversation as he was with most conversations. Once the group of Dauntless-born began talking amongst themselves - or more accurately, began arguing, Eric looked back to where he had just seen the Stiff but she had disappeared. How could an Abnegation initiate move so quickly without him noticing? It surprised him how much the dark-haired Stiff didn't act like she was a Stiff at all, she acted as if she were a member of Dauntless-born, when in fact she was not. Her ability to adapt to her surroundings so quickly enthralled him.

After several minutes of searching he found her amongst the sea of Dauntless members, weaving through the crowd as she made a effort to not run into anyone. Somewhere amongst the chaos she got turned around and he found her standing by his table directly beside where he was sitting. The group of Dauntless-born stopped arguing and looked over at the Stiff, staring at her in silence. Slowly, Eric stood up and looked down at her from his greater height, his face as expressionless as a brick wall. "Lose your way, Stiff?" He asked, his voice cold while he spoke to her, the group at his table seemed to be holding their breath.

~-~

It confused Jae ever so slightly why Tirzah would choose to go to the trainer who the only other Abnegation initiate now say across from while she ate her cake. From what she knew, Tirzah hadn't known Four before the trainer had introduced himself to the group of transfers. Of course, she could be wrong. Four seemed to be...softer, if that was the right word to use, when he spoke to Tirzah, as if he had known her before he had seen her today. Already her mind had gone over the possibility of the two being related in some way, but she had ruled that out after thinking that there was no way that Four could've possibly come from Abnegation. She tried to imagine him dressed in the gray clothing of her birth faction but she couldn't.

By thinking of Abnegation, Jae's thoughts shifted to her sister Kaiya. She had watched from the Dauntless side of the room where the Choosing Ceremony took place as her sister chose the Erudite faction. It was no surprise to Jae really, she had been in her sister's bedroom many times before and had noted the excessive amount of books that were shoved behind furniture and under the mattress, anywhere that they could easily be hidden from the naked eye. Kaiya had possessed the addiction to knowledge for as long as Jae could remember. But why Kaiya chose to hide her knowledgable side was beyond Jae's imagination. If their parents loved them, certainly they would except them for who they really were, wouldn't they? Perhaps not. Jae knew her parents would not have been happy when they saw her chose the Dauntless faction, but it was her life, and she had made her choice for where she wanted to begin living it.

мαr ♚ | 264 comments Eric raised an eyebrow when she looked at him, her expression looked as if she were bored. The Dauntless Born that sat at the table chuckled under their breath when she spoke to the trainer confidently, as if she didn't know what Eric could do to her. For a moment, he was confused at the smirk that her lips had pulled into, wondering what she could possibly be thinking that would make her smirk like that. She was very discretely looking him over, though Eric's sharp eyes could see right through her trying to hide it. The Stiff finished with a 'see you at training tomorrow' and ducked under his arm, he guessed to head back to Four's table. "Yes, you will," Eric replied, voice carrying after her as she walked away and he sat back down at the table. The Pit remained silent for a moment longer, but then the usual ruckus started back up again, the Dauntless Born at his table had turned to watch the Stiff walk away. Eric's eyes followed her as well, wheels spinning in his thoughts.

~-~

At the sound of the cough the trainer across from her made, Jae looked up from her tray, forehead creasing slightly at his words. Her expression smoothed out and she nodded, "Yes, sir," she replied, opening her mouth to say something more but decided against it and snapped her jaw shut. When the Pit fell silent she looked around, confused, then her eyes landed upon Tirzah who was speaking to the trainer who had greeted them on the roof when they had first arrived. Compared to the trainer Tirzah looked like a child, Jae imagined how terribly easy it would be for the man to snap her in half. Jae cringed slightly at the thought, watching in silence until Tirzah turned to return to the table and the trainer said something to her and sat down. The Pit was silent for another moment and the noise picked back up again, Jae watched the Dauntless Born as they watched Tirzah walk away, she let out a breath she hadn't realized she had been holding in.
