These woods were large enough that, even though they were too close to camp and people, Artemis felt safe and content when she was in them. No one ventured in here anyway, she knew. As she straightened up from reading the tracks on the ground and pushed her black braid back over her shoulder and out of the way, she drew in a deep breath of the fresh, cool air. She didn't understand why the other gods and goddesses were so keen to delve into mortal cities when there were places like this right under their noses. She couldn't remember how long she'd been in the woods, not necessarily this forest in particular. she just roamed, and they all blurred delightfully together after a while in her memory. All she remember was that it had been a long while since she'd had to see anyone, immortal or not. Six months? A year? She wasn't sure. Which was perfect for her.
Pursing her lips together, Artemis let out a long, low whistle. There was a brief pause, then a faint rustle and a skinny young wolf moved forward out of the bushes, ears swiveling all around. Bracer was relearning how to be a wolf with her help, and she took him hunting whenever she could. The small fawn was currently being guarded by the rest of her pack, who knew better than to harm a baby, especially Quiver.
Now that Bracer was here the goddess wasted no time, running along the trail with the wolf beside her. As she moved she drew her bowstring back slightly, though she was nowhere near foolish enough to draw it all the way back at this point. After a bit she stopped dead in her tracks and slowly crept forward, eyes narrowing on something moving ahead of her. After she had gotten a bit closer to her prey, she had her bow up an aimed. The silver arrow was faster than the eye could follow, and there was a very large thump that followed. Relaxing, she walked forward to the moose, yanking her arrow back out of the eye socket and into her quiver to clean later.
It was maybe fifteen minutes later that she was seated in front of a crackling fire, the wolf pack play fighting over the meat pieces she had thrown them while she was cleaning the moose. She was definitely fast at cleaning animals, but she also made sure to do it carefully so nothing was wasted. Besides, she had nothing but time. So she was still cleaning the moose, peeling the skin back and occasionally cutting off chunks and throwing them to her carnivores, smiling at the sight of the black and silver Bracer right in there with the others. Every so often she'd pause and look over to the side at Quiver, where the white and gold fawn was delicately eating berries that Artemis had collected for the tiny animal.
As Artemis peeled the skin back from the moose meat, she lifted her head as she heard a faint sound. She responded with a long whistle, and then simply waited. Sure enough, after a minute a large wolf came charging from the woods, barking. "Shh, calm down." She told him, tossing the wolf a piece of the moose. He gulped it down, panting, then started barking again. This time though, she was able to follow what the wolf communicated. She gave a long sigh, slicing out a larger piece of meat and throwing it to the wolf as a reward. Before she went to do anything about it, she finished skinning a large piece of the moose. She sliced it away from the moose and tossed it to the wolf pack, who eagerly set upon it. Then she rose to her feet with a sigh. Bracer and the wolf that had run over circled her, and she smiled slightly as she scratched his ears, giving Quiver a pat as she headed off. Her wolves knew protect the fawn, she knew. So she was completely confident in leaving them alone. She followed the strange wolf, giving an annoyed sigh. Dealing with lost campers was not something she really wanted to do. But still, she didn't particularly want someone to die when she could help it. After a little while she waved the strange wolf off, making her way to the camp on her own. Bracer ran in, but the one eyed wolf back tracked and went behind Artemis's legs when he realized there was a person there. "It appears you are in need of assistance." She said bluntly, scratching the top of the wolf's head.
"One of the most important things in survival is being prepared." Artemis said flatly, looking down as Bracer whined fearfully and pressed against the back of her legs. "Yes. I am Artemis." She agreed flatly, studying him. Bracer barked and she looked down at him, sinking to her knees. The wolf moved around to sit in front of her, pressing close against her. She scratched behind his ears and started petting him. Obviously she was more fond of her creatures than she was any person. Besides possibly her brother, but Apollo wasn't here. "I can take you back to camp." She said a bit grudgingly. People were not her favorite thing, so she'd really rather not go around camp. And especially because the one she was going to be helping was a male. But still, he had done nothing. There was no reason to not help him. However, that didn't mean that she was going to have a great time with this.
Without responding, Artemis nodded her head slightly. She straightened, still scratching the head of her pet. He sniffed at Ari, taking a step forward, and she nodded. "Bracer, he will not hurt you. Right....?" She said firmly, giving Ari a hard look. She left it open for him to input his Name so she had something to call him. She was rather protective of her creatures, especially this one eyed wolf. Bracer wasn't fond of people, especially males, but he was a curious wolf and had learned that Artemis would protect him. With a slight sigh, she reached into the pocket of her silver jeans and removed a silvery compass. It was no big loss to her, so she had no real regrets passing it over to Ari. "It will always point in the direction you need to go. Whether that direction is straight north, or to safety." She explained briefly, looking down as Bracer took a cautious step toward him.
As amusing as this almost fearful respect Ari was showing was, Artemis knew from experience it would wear thin. "It would take an extremely insulting comment for me to act on it. It is doubtful you are foolish enough to do that. Speak your mind, Ari. I will not kill you unless you give me good cause to." she said in her cool, almost aloof way. She watched Bracer, an amused smile playing on the edge of her lips. "Bracer will not harm you either, so long as you do not harm him. If you do, rest assured, he will not be your biggest problem." she warned. It wasn't really a threat, just kind of a general warning. Driven on by Artemis's words on his behalf, Bracer pushed forward. He stood directly in front of Ari, tense but curiously studying the boy. A faint noise hit her ears, and Artemis turned. Dozens of different woodland creatures stood around, drawn in by the goddess's presence. "Go on, shoo!" she told them kindly, and the animals began to drift off. A big snowy owl swooped in to land on her shoulder, and she sighed slightly but didn't act to shoo it as well.
((Technically she can but only if her huntresses are visiting I believe. I am not certain but I think that is what it said with Zoe Nightshade. http://riordan.wikia.com/wiki/Hunters...There is the link for further research.))
((I understand that she was in the books, but I don't think it's fair that she has to be exactly like she was in the books. Her history and personality and basically all of her basic information are already done for me. I'd like a little bit of creative license for my character. She's out in the middle of the woods, and away from people. She's a goddess of a hunt, and there's no other woods or forests for her to be in. There's nowhere else for her to logically RP, given the personality and powers.))
((Hmm....very true... I guess it is pretty tough being a God in roleplays...*starts humming song* Sorry :p Yeah, I have no idea how to really answer that. I completely understand about the creativity part. I love having creative flow without the reins. I wish there was more I could do to help but it is up to the mods.))
The forest was perfectly tranquil as Jess made her way silently through the branches and underbrush. She clutched her bow in her hand, comforted by the weight of it and the familiar feeling of the polished wood beneath her palm. Her mind hummed in the empty silence, her hands itching to move. There were always to extremes for the forest; full of life and noise, or still and calm as it was now. When it was the latter she liked to frequent the place, enjoying the serenity it brought her. Something about the forest made her feel content in the way that nothing else could. Except for now.
Jess didn't want to feel calm or serene now. She wanted to hunt. Picking up her speed to a run, she shot deeper into the forest, bounding over roots and shrubs. Branches brushed her face and arms sharply; she was sure there would be small scratches across her cheeks and leaves caught in the tight braid she had woven at her neck, but couldn't be bothered to care. A somewhat manic grin spread across Jess's face as she ran, her heart beat very loud in her ears. She was seeing nothing but what was in front of her, and however dangerous it might be, likely wouldn't notice anyone or anything but the pounding if her feet on the forest floor.
Jess really didn't notice that there was anyone else around until the girl had slammed into her and sent her sprawling on the ground. She winced as her bow jabbed into her back when she landed, and groaned as her head hit a root. A sharp pounding echoed in her head as she pushed herself up, brushing bits of pine needle and leaves from her hair as she did so. Jess looked around bemusedly and spotted the girl who had run into her. She stood up, cursing profanely under her breath all the while, and moved to sling her bow back across her shoulder.
"Ugh. Gods that was painful." She said, rubbing at the side of her head which was now throbbing and would likely bruise by the morning. "What the hell was that?" Jess asked none-to-kindly. She focused on the girl who had run into her and crossed her arms over her chest, narrowing her eyes. The smile had faded from her face and was now replaced with an irritated grimace. It's not as if it was completely the other girls' fault that she had run into Jess, still it bothered her that she had been caught off guard.please excuse jess's bitchiness :p
