I have read many books that are set in New York City. My favorite ones are The Secret of Lost Things A Novel by Sheridan Hay and Enchanted, Inc. A Novel by Shanna Swendson as well as Michelangelo's Notebook by Paul Christopher.

Just finished 2 great books set, at least in part, in post-9/11 NYC: Netherland and The Reluctant Fundamentalist. O'Neill has some especially interesting insights on New York City as a foreigner to the US. Lovely read either way but a familiarity with the city definitely enhances ones enjoyment of the book.
I particularly enjoyed The New York Stories of Edith Wharton and Metropolis: A Novel -- two very different takes on life in New York.
The first is a collection of Edith Wharton's short fiction set in the high (and falling) society of the upper east side at the turn of the twentieth century. The second is Elizabeth Gaffney's brilliant debut novel -- the story of one man's life as a German immigrant adopted into an Irish criminal gang in post-Civil War New York.

In the spirit of our age, here for your viewing pleasure is a movie trailer for a novel that has yet to come out -- Edie Meidav's Lola, California: A Novel. The movie was made by director Rebecca Dreyfus, and has music composed by Kevin Salem; Meidav narrates, in a sense. Given that the novel set in part in NYC, I thought you might find this at the very least a bit of viewing pleasure and, at the most, something intriguing in relation to a new, promising novel which I got to read recently.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N6iY2A...
Just read this book coming out soon... All These Things I've Done.. It's a teen novel, takes place in 2083, fun, quick read.
