So the beginning of the book is certainly interesting. We have an alternate reality world, which reminds me a bit of 40's - 50's England. There's a clear divide between the modern (-ish) world and the old magical world. It would appear that the bad kind of magic is trying to seep into the modern world.

I wonder what caused the separation or the wall to be build in the first place.

The magic system in this story, is so unique and complex. What do you guys think of the whole Charter thing?

Steph (stephsaporito) | 8 comments I found it really refreshing that it wasn't the same old magic concept. for me at least, it was the first book I've read that was about necromancy and magic of the dead

I don't think I've read many books where the necromancer was the main character and was good. Read a couple where they were bad guys.

The magic system is certainly unique. Or one of the most unique, next to Tamora Pierce's Circle series.

Steph (stephsaporito) | 8 comments Definitely agree with that! Tamora Pierce was always one of my favorites growing up! The whole idea of "charter magic" was really interesting to me especially the idea of the stones!

Have you read about Mogget yet? He sounds like a fearsome little nugget that you just want to cuddle.

I think the first ten chapters get the ball going nicely. There's just enough action to get the urgency going.
I also like Sabriel and Mogget so far, and I like the magic in this world.

Steph (stephsaporito) | 8 comments I actually read this 2 weeks before it was picked!! Mogget was easily my favorite! I could really enjoy a cat like that!! I really hope they go more into who he is and his past. It sounds like it could be interesting!
